"Live From" Numidia Dragway

Okay folks, I know this is not a national or a division race or even an open, but Numdia is open and I'm thrilled to be back at the track. I did not bring my car, I came to visit friends and watch some racing. I'm here with the Fletcher's and Biondo's. There testing their Stockers, its kind of cool, both sons are driving the Stockers. Timothy is in Dan's 69 Camaro and Dylan is in Sal's Firebird. I saw three Stockers here, Jeanne Linke was the other Stocker. They are also racing bracket cars.
I know some may not like this, but a race car is a race car and I'm just happy to be here. It is a shame that they canceled the division race here in June. I can't see why they did, as today's test went well with no issues, There is over a 100 rigs here, if the weather was better, there would have been a lot more. I will have more later.... Today is a test and tune, and before the rains hit we were racing until about 1:00. It looks like we will be done for the day as the rain is steady now. Below is the schedule if anyone is interested in coming. May 23 $10k Super Pro and $3k Pro + Jr. Dragsters Gates open 8am Jr. Dragster Times Runs start 10:00 AM Eliminations to Follow Super Pro/Pro Time Runs Start at Noon Eliminations to Follow May 24 $5k Super Pro and $3k Pro + Jr. Dragsters Gates open 8am Jr. Dragster Times Runs start 9:00 AM Eliminations to Follow New Entry Time run at 10:30 Am Super Pro/Pro 1 Time Run at 11AM Eliminations to Follow |

A few more shots of the local bracket racers. I would have to say the day went pretty good, even though the rains came. Everyone was practicing social distancing and following the new rules to stay safe.
Special thanks to the Dimino family..... Its nice to have a safe place to race and enjoy the sport we all love in these tough times. |

The weather has cleared, and testing will continue today around 2. They were supposed to have the 10k and 3k today, but with so many cars, testing only today. The 10k and 3k will be tomorrow, and 5k and 3k Monday. The weather looks great so come on down if you are on the fence. I few more shots from yesterday and today. |
Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Thanks, I wish more folks did the "speed" shots.

Another day of testing, but it felt like a division race. We had over 290 cars testing today. Tomorrow starts the first of the 2 big dollar races. I did find some Super Stock and Stockers, but mostly bracket cars are here. It was still pretty cool to see so many cars.

Thanks guys, I few more shots from yesterday. More cars came in today, so we should be well over 300. Eliminations should start soon. Weather is absolutely perfect with temps in the low 70's.

Its been a rough day guys. A couple of oil downs and a top end crash. We are still less the half way through firs round of pro. Here is a set of photos from the finish line. I missed the first hit on the wall as I turned away a heard the pickup hit the for the first time at the 1320 mark, they are racing a 1000 ft here. Driver is okay, the car is not so good.
The second set photos is a trans exploding in the burnout, it sounded like a bomb went off. as you can see the tunnel also has extensive damage. |
Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
What kind of transmission was it? You don’t see them exploding very often. Thankfully.

Not sure and I think not required as it was not a 10.99 or quicker car.
Some first round finish line shots.... |

Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Tough day for the mopars. Thats a Dakota hitting the wall and a dart or demon with the tranny explosion. That’s why they make us run blankets or shields. Any word on the driver, you know his foot was on that gas pedal.

Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Truck looked like an S-10 to me, however I wasn't there.
|
Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Truck was an s-10
And the mopar trans issue guy was in burnout box. Got out of car fine. Should have Rattled him a bit |
Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
i see a piece of snap ring on the ground ,,if was to guess it was 727 and the drum blew up and took the rest of the case out is what i am seeing ,,

Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
I run valve bodies that hold the low and reverse band in first, even if you break the sprag you'll never turn that drum fast enough with a band holding it to explode the drum. Those valve bodies that don't hold the band should be thrown out.

Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
People have been preaching to these guys for years. And plenty of them reply "been doing it my way for years and nothing ever happened".
No need for this to happen. With no low band apply in low gear, and the roller clutch completely fails under load in low gear, the engine freewheels. At somewhere north of 5000RPM x low gear ratio - 12000+RPM - the cast OE front drum explodes. The use of an aftermarket steel or aluminum drum and/or a low band apply valve body, prevents this from happening if the roller clutch fails. Just because the car moves in low gear doesn't mean the roller clutch hasn't failed. I've seen them in transmissions that came out of a car - that was being driven but had the rear end recently broken and repaired - with half the springs mashed and only half of the elements holding. This can happen with a 904, but the 727 is the one with the heavy OE drum that blows up. Failing to follow instructions for how to drive the car and/or a driveline or rear end failure under load in low gear will kill the roller clutch. Sometimes it still works well enough to get it into the water or to the starting line, with ugly results. |
Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Glad to here the drivers are ok. I guess I was mistaken on the truck.

Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
It was good to be at there track . See some friends .I broke a brand new trans on the first pass mid track ( planitary ? ) rev limiter saved the new motor , I was told the M200 was faster than my coan TH350 , fast alright as in it put me on the trailer fast . At least no oil down , no guard rail or taking somebody else out . Didn't bring a spair so just hung out sat , headed home sun & swaped out trans ready for epping hopefully

Hey Ken, sorry to here about your bad luck. Yesterdays eliminations finished around midnight, and with 344 cars and lots of down time The track did a great job getting it all done.
Forgive me as I don't know who the winners are as am not familiar with there names. I do know Jeanne Linke went 5 rounds in Pro in her Stocker and Anthony Fetch went to the quarters I believe, and Dan Northrup went to the semis in Super Pro. Here are some tight finish line shots from this mornings first round in Pro. |

Well guys, I hope you enjoyed the coverage. I wish it could have been a NHRA race, but hopefully soon. I do have a ton of respect for bracket racers, after all that's what we do most of the time. They are not much different from us, except they race for more money...lol. Thanks again to the Dimino family, with the final car count of 388 you could not ask for a better run race. Guys, if you are ever on the fence about coming to Numidia for a division race or just to have a fun weekend of racing, you will not be sorry. My next live from will be Galot, Its the Spring Fling on June 9th. I know its not a NHRA race, but I think it will be cool. There will be over $200,000 in prize money and over $50,000 is product giveaways. My first NHRA race will be the Sportsman Nationals at Columbus on July 15, and I can't wait. Thanks again everyone for supporting Class Racer, without you guys there is no Class Racer. |
Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Not sure if it was mentioned here but over the pa it was announced they would be open again next weekend for racing. So if anyone is still looking for somewhere to race. Good job by Numidia and the Dimino’s for getting back to business

Re: "Live From" Numidia Dragway
Ken, I will see you in Columbus for the Jegs Sportsnationals; and, just like you, I can't wait.
