Battery tender that actually lasts..

Anybody have a good battery tender that lasts longer than a year or so?
I’ve been through three Schumacher’s in three years and I know there have been fires from cheap Chinese tenders as well.
Any recommendations?

The fact that you said battery tender is funny. The Battery Tender brand has worked great for me for years. Pricing is pretty decent also. Just what has worked for me.

I have had one of the automatic ones that Grainger sells for $80.00 and it seems to work alright. I use it just to keep a charge for the battery in the car or the break- a -way battery for the trailer. I wouldn't rely on it to start anything though.John Kissel

I have a battery tender brand that stayed on our dump trailer for 5 years. Now it is on my race car

I have been using the Battery Tender brand for 10 plus years on over thirty, yes 30+ vehicles,
I have them on both race cars and two classic cars.
Also on all of my Police Department specialty vehicles, there are over 30 of them. only one failure in this time.

Respectfully
Keith

I got one of those cheap Chinese ones for Christmas and stuck it on the race car being stored in the trailer. I checked on it in an hour or so and it scared me on how hot the thing got. I'd definitely stay away from those.

In addition to the Battery Tender brand products, I have had excellent success with the Noco brand of chargers.

I have two Battery Tender Jr that I've used for a few years now with no problems.

On another forum that I frequent, there seem to be a lot of Battery Minder fans.

My first Battery Tender brand lasted from 2001 to this past winter, then stopped working. Bought the same one again-the original had been used on several motorcycles and cars over 19 years.

I have 3 of the Battery Tender Jr's that are on all the time. One on the race truck, one on the UTV and one on the pit bike. Makes the batteries last a lot longer when you keep them charged up.

Auto meter makes the best one that I have found.

Kevin;
I agree with Monte.
I've had two Autometer Battery Extenders Model 9202 since they first made them back in the 80's. The first one lasted over 20 years and then they sold me another one cheap which I still use, a lot.
They have an aluminum finned outer shell that does get hot if the battery is heavily depleted but after an over night charge the battery is usually fully charged.
This model 9202 is rated at 1 amp charge with 250 milliamp maintenance rate. A lot of us veterans have these stopped using a regular charger (except at the track) years ago.

I agree. My Battery Tender brand tender is probably ten years old, with no issues at all.
Has anybody modified one for 16 volts? Been kicking that around.

The one I have has a 12 volt and 16 volt option. I think it is Auto Meter.

SS Chief can you post a model # and brand if its not a battery tender for the 12-16 volt version, I would be interested in purchasing one?

attometer makes/made a model 5000 for battery maintaining --multi voltages --also Schumacher used to make a CR-2 (cost about $20-25) for those little kids battery powered cars superseded by a CR-8 --- about a 1.5 amp unit I believe ---might be worth spending the money to see if you can get one to work on a 16 volt battery probably have to change ends for alligator clips or whatever ---for $20 its worth a try --I think you can get them at Walmart or on line---FED 387

Wow I have 5 Schumachers, and been using them for 7-8 years with no issues.

Should we be wasting our hard earned currency on Chinese crap?

Years ago I bought a cheap one and it ruined an expensive aircraft battery. No more HF
