Almost Live from Ray Barton's Hub Dyno

9 Attachment(s)
Hi gang - welcome to the 2020 season .Those of you who know me well are aware that i'm pretty much 'old school' even though I've had Fuel Injected cars since 1994 .That said I've had cars on a chassis dyno before and now they have a new one - the Hub Dyno .To say it was easy for David Barton to convince me to try it would be an understatement .But he did convince me and yesterday I got to spend hours with David and his team on their new gadget .

After setting up with a bunch of wires / sensors and hooking the device up to the rear hubs we were ready to go .They are fully equipped and with everything in place it'll tell you plenty - pretty much with the exception of when lunch will arrive .

What did we learn? It showed me the car had the wrong headers - by changing to another set he had showed power we gained. Then it told of the wrong injectors .And there was a fuel pressure issue that came to light .I would love to tell you some of the other items David came across thru trial and error but i'm sure some of my competitors are listening .

From what I could tell this equipment is first class stuff and they are proud to have it .I'd love to share the numbers with our members but there is no point to bragging till I get my baby on the track .Also I'm sure many of you are wondering what the cost would be but I haven't receive my tab yet - and I've known them to be fair.

There are some videos of the dyno being run (caution-fast Hemi cars) on the Ray Barton website. Very cool!

I'll try to answer your question - the short version is that it was built in 2018 at the COPO Build Center but was built as a 2012 Camaro .So it doesn't have a COPO number because of their limit of 69 cars per year .As you may tell I really wanted a ragtop .....

Does this mean that they are able to simulate the full 1/4 mile pass?

I see they kept you inside the car so you wouldn't touch anything. What great info, and more accurate than the chassis dyno. I presume this records all the typical weather station data.

Yes it does - from the stall to the top of high gear .

Jack,
Can it produce a data log of G forces for the 1/4 mile simulation?

Thanks
Stan

Jack that looks really cool. I'm jealous. So how much more will you have to slow the car down so you don't go 1 under. LOL BP

Jack,
Thanks. I have gotten some PDF's from MainLine's web site. They seen old and the ones I have looked at are for their roller and not hub dyno. But this one feature in their software looks interesting.

STANDARD – GEAR CHANGE POINT CALCULATOR
The Mainline DynoLog control system includes software to calculate the optimum gear change points based on best average power and best average torque. This is an extremely useful function for extracting the best performance from your vehicle.
