Re: Bandimere “Thunder on the Mountain “
On the Stock Q-list, Brad Burton's '72 Formula is listed in I/SA. Unless he switched over to a smaller engine, or a different car, that must be a mistake. Last week, Brad's car was running D/SA.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2020#indextop Could someone there please check to see what combo Brad is driving, in Stock ? THANKS ! |
Re: Bandimere “Thunder on the Mountain “
I was wondering the same thing. Different car or different combo. What's up???
Maybe a new secret combo? |

His Mom gave Brad permission to drive "Grimace"...one of the family cars... :D Since I don't want to be in Diane's bad side, Brad can fill in the details...:D https://images.app.goo.gl/3AhqZCwRPHxCaZPq6 |

Maybe he didn't wanna pull the Bird from WA. Looks to be round 1300 miles or so. I remember a race where Scott drove a slow Mopar Stocker of some sort, out at one of those Great Northwest races. Borrowed it. Slightly off subject, but I sure did hate it when Scott sold his '70 RAIV BIrd, quickest Pontiac powered Stocker ever, to someone who was gonna take it overseas. :( The sale is none of my business. But I sure miss seeing it on the Q-lists, & reporting about it, on Pontiac sites. It was a one-of-a-kind car, on the modern drag race circuit. I miss it. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hppp...tiac-firebird/ |

All our competitors had very sharp knives 1st Round .002 .008 .010 .010 In that order My .015 was my best and not good enough (.002 Loss ) We were amazed to see the number of Spectators = More than I have seen at a Division Race for a long long time!! Our pit had people seriously interested and engaged going thru all day long and we enjoyed that for a change! |
Re: Bandimere “Thunder on the Mountain “

Since I don't know any of you guys, I have to wonder if it's because you don't like Pontiac powered Pontiacs ? Or you think the car was illegal ? Or you don't like Scott Burton ? I've read where people posted that the Burtons are real nice people. So, I assume that's not the reason. At big races, the car was not the quickest car in B/SA, recently. Looks like the last time it was at the US Nats, in 2015, there were at least 4 B/SA cars quicker, including yours. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2015#indextop Since then, some B/SA cars ran in the 9's, & several ran 10.0?. So, I assume the quicker B/SA competitors were not afraid of a heads-up run with the Pontiac. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2018#indextop But, Scott did go rounds & win some races, with the car. Noticed Scott is still racing in Stock, but now driving a 2010 Ford. So, is he more accepted now that he's not driving an old Pontiac ? https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2020#indextop Just from reading the posts here, it seems that most have pretty good comradery with MOST fellow competitors, UNLESS they think(or know) they are cheating. I have no idea which cars are legal & which are not, nor who the good guys are vs the bad apples. So, just so I'll know, please explain the reason for your statement. Thanks ! |

if you're referring to Larry's post that oldskool was questioning... im 99% sure that had nothing to do with the Burton's themselves... I don't want to put words in his mouth but the way I read it he is just glad not to see that particular Pontiac in the other lane any more... it was fast and Scott is a good driver.. He will probably have the same sentiment about the Mustang Scott now drives, but wont ever have to worry about class.. unless his new challenger falls in the same class.. JMO... maybe Larry will jump in and clarify a statement that I'm guessing has been read wayy wrong by oldskool Brad |
Re: Bandimere “Thunder on the Mountain “
The Burton Family is one of the nicest people you will find at the track; they are also hard working, very competitive and love the sport.
Hard working and competitive people, in addition to winning, will always bring fear to others in a good way. Larry likes to joke, and like many others that race in B/SA, they were glad to see the car gone. As regards to Scott, he is a Ford guy at heart, he used to race a Ford and he is really enjoying his current ride very much. Yes, he also drove Angela Bushmaker's car at one time too. |
Re: Bandimere “Thunder on the Mountain “
It is nearly impossible for my son and I not to
like the Burtons. They always have a ready smile and take the time to say hello and chat. Extraordinary drivers and outstanding mechanical talents! They are always gentleman and unfailingly fair in all our racing interactions with them = "Win or Lose". |

"...Scott...is a Ford guy at heart, he used to race a Ford..."
I wasn't aware of the Burtons when Scott was driving a Ford. For anyone who may be interested(I realize most are probably not), here's some Burton Pontiac history, as recorded in the DRC records. Scott shows up at the 2000 Mile high Nats, with a '73 Bird, in G/SA. Claimed a '72, in '02. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2000#indextop In '05, Brad shows up as the driver. The car is listed as a '71, in E/SA. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop In '06, they show up with 2 Birds. Scott is driving a '71, in D/SA, & Brad is driving the '72, in E/SA. Remained this way thru '09. Both cars usually qualified near the top of the list, & picked up some class wins. It's interesting to see how much slower the cars were, than they are today. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop In 2010, Scott's car is listed as a '70 model, running B/SA. So, I assume that's the 1st year he ran it with the RAIV engine, & ran it that way 'til he sold it. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop I assume they have only run those 2 particular Birds, in Stock. But I could be wrong. They may have bought & sold several. Or, they may have built just the 2 cars from scratch. Obviously, I'm not in a position to know. Just going by the DRC records & guessing at the rest. Anyhow, it seems that most everybody thinks the Burtons are good folks, but some MAY be glad the B/SA Bird is gone, for whatever reason. Surely we can all agree on those 2 points. :) |
