Rusty Johnson
One of my best friends and fellow racer Rusty Johnson passed away this AM from an apparent heart attack, he was just 51 years old and no ongoing medical conditions. Words can't describe the shock and sorrow when I heard the news from Alicia, his long time mate and confidant. He had a daughter, Lily who just finished her first year of college and son Lee who will be a HS junior this upcoming school year. Please think about and pray for the family.

I am having a hard time putting into words how shocked and saddened I am to hear this. Praying for strength and comfort for Alicia and the family during this time. Rusty will not be forgotten.

Re: Rusty Johnson
Devastating news, Rusty was such a great guy and always had a ready smile and kind word. Recall the joy as he told me about his Bristol National win but win or lose at the track you always knew him to be a winner. Alicia is such a wonderful lady as well, my heart goes out to all of his family. Jimmy, know how close you guys were, thank you for sharing, wish we could lessen the loss for you as well but know you’re in my prayers also.

Re: Rusty Johnson
God blessed me with the opportunity to see Rusty at the recent Atlanta Div. race. I wish that I spent more time with him that weekend. I did have the chance to meet his son for the first time and I am thankful for that. Rusty and Alicia became good friends of mine and like everyone else here I am stunned. I would always look forward to hanging out with Rusty and Alicia and Jimmy and Sandra. My thoughts, prayers and love to Alicia, Lily, and Lee and Jimmy and Sandra (I know how close you guys are). Godspeed my friend. A true class act, gentleman, businessman, solid father, hard core class racer......You will be missed.
Sincerely, Bryan Phillips |
