Yellowstone

Now a double

Carguy49 08-02-2020 03:27 PM

Re: Yellowstone

Very interesting. With this now being a double and the Mission double canceled, I wonder how many will make the trek???

I've never been there but understand that Yellowstone is in the middle of nowhere.

If anyone has been there - is there a town close?

Re: Yellowstone

Basically its Billings. About 15 miles away.

Carguy49 08-02-2020 07:51 PM

Re: Yellowstone

I thought it was farther from town, shame on me. Thanks for the info Bob.

There are 3 Walmart's and a Costco and I saw an Albertson store in Billings (google map). You might want to stock up on food before heading to the track. That way you don't have to make food runs during the weekend, just a thought.

I hope it is a good turnout since it is a double race.

Suppose any quarantine problems there?

Acton (pop. 183) has a bar & grill, a bed & breakfast, and a horse hotel. And the track.

And the track.... is down a 4 mile long gravel road beyond that out in the middle of nowhere. For the record though, I have run the Divisional there multiple times and it's a pretty nice track, the management (at least back then) was very friendly and we had a good time in spite of the hail storm that trashed everyone's trailers but that's a story for another day.

Great race track, great owners, restaurant near by. 1.5 miles of Gravel road is in great condition (not the washboard from the past). Airport and town of Billings is 15 minutes with lots of hotels and restaurants.

Re: Yellowstone

I have never been to this track, but I did live in Bozeman, MT for a yr when I was 21. Montana is AMAZING. Been on vacation back there many times. I live ~1600 miles from this track and I would try to go race there given the opportunity. The drive there and the scenery is worth the price of admission to me. Not a lot tracks can I supplement an early rd loss or crappy performance with fly fishing and mountain views 10 mins outside the gate.

Re: Yellowstone

Thanks to Jeff Lane and Andy Friar for giving a better perspective for the area. Maybe this will help some people decide to go.

I do hope the event is well attended amid all the problem we are facing today. Glad to see so many local events happening and this will be a help to the local economy near Billings.

Everyone race often and stay safe and healthy.

Re: Yellowstone

Made the trip for a national open a couple years back. Wish I was able to make it out for this. Aside from the gravel road which at the time was a washboard I loved the place. The staff was great the facility itself was really nice and yeah just a short drive into Billings. Will definitely make it back someday.

Re: Yellowstone

I'm going to try to make it, put a new bullet in the Duster last week, will make some shakedown runs in Vegas on Saturday. If all is well will turn Northward for Firebird Raceway's Divisional and then head eastward to make the double at Yellowstone, quite the trip from San Diego! Gotta do something to salvage this season...

Unless the Billings city limits has been moved out about 15 miles the only way you can get to town in 15min is in an airplane or a ZR-1 and hope you don’t see a police car, it’s a nice track in the middle of now where, and you better have good insurance, you will likely have a thunderstorm and hail witch will damage everything

Pete,
Although I’ve spent countless weekends in New Jersey burning rubber and too much money, I’m not a Jersey boy, I’m originally from Stamford Connecticut and have now been in Charleston South Carolina for the past six years, but I’d still like to make the road trip with you and I’m sure we’d raise some serious hell together!
Have fun and keep us in the loop with some reports.
