Anne Toews

Today, I take my hat off to Anne Toews for her solid performance return in her 69 N/SA Camaro after a hiatus since 1973 (information from Brian Lohnes). This 75 years "young" lady lost in third run of racing at the Epping Jegs Sportnationals.
Congratulations,

Ms Anne
According to her Facebook page, orange Camaro replaced white Camaro, after towing crash.

Annie and Walter Toews lived at opposite end of Maple Rd. in West Milford, NJ from us for many years before Walt passed a few years ago. Lou Cuviello (bikes) was involved with them for years and the company name was LAW Automotive (small block Chevy Stock and S/S). LouAndWalt or LouAnnieWalt made up LAW. Maybe Billy Nees can set that straight!

Walter Toews' Chevy II 100 sedan was one of the coolest race cars back in the day.

Anne was on the receiving end of the classiest sportsmanlike act I have ever seen at a race. Many saw it and commended the competitor. Anne is a great story in our sport. Congrats Anne .

Re: Anne Toews

I've known Anne since 1966.
We raced at Island Dragway and Lou, Anne and Walt were also racing there often.
Had some good races over the years in various cars.
Walt was often at the shop I worked at, Crow's Head Shop.
We did some work for him and he used our machines sometimes to do some work. He built engines at home after his regular job.
We were always pretty good friends and sometimes competitors.

Anne has been running the Orange car pretty regularly the last couple months and has been doing a great job.

Walt built the engine that's in that car and amazingly the car is all original Anne told me. I never saw that one and thought it was the white car but it is not.

Their cars were always nice, well built and pretty fast. Sedan Deliveries, the Corvette, and later the early Nova's in SS and others.

Todd, Billy and Tom Goldman also did some work on the orange car to get it out there.

A Pretty cool story really and Walt would be happy I think for sure....He was a great guy and always smiling......We always had fun discussions and he was very smart and talented.

I was watching the NED race some and thought it was real good how Brian Lohnes told the story and very accurately.....

Racing is a great motivator and helps to keep us older folks going...

Bravo Anne !!!

I don't recall the exact details but one car was a hdtp and the roof was cutoff and made into a sedan......to better fit the class rules.

The sedan ran SS/JA with a 327....and is still a racecar....

Was fortunate to meet Anne in the Stageing Lanes with her daughter Jen (aka Mrs Todd Hoven)
Had a "GREAT Conversation" about her and her car, and how she got to NH to race it.

It's people like Anne that inspire many to continue to do this CrAzY thing we call Class Racing.

It was my pleasure to meet you Mrs Toews ;)

I haven't seen Anne in person since 1972 but I still recognize her.
It's inspiring that she's racing again.

I'm very happy for Anne and I know Walter is smiling too !
I was very glad that Walt and Anne asked me to be a part of bringing the Camaro back to life after its long rest .
This car is so original it was scary ! only the wheel openings had been rolled under to clear the 10" Super Stock tires ' and a couple holes in the floor pan from the old Lakewood hoop !
More than a few people who saw it in my shop begged me not to put the roll bar in ,and please let them call Walt to buy it !
They had no idea how special this car was to both Walt and Anne !
Go get em Anne , you haven't missed a step while away on you're "short vacation "away from the track !

Re: Anne Toews

Thank you everyone for the kind words in your posts about Anne. She is having the time of her life driving that car and racing with all the great people we get to race with and against. Just competing this weekend in an NHRA National Event was a dream come true for her.

I also want to thank Jack Sepanek for walking over and helping her back into her game and the burnout box. Also thank you to Katie for shutting off the car and waiting. It was a kind selfless act and just displays what a super guy and sportsman he is. Like a good friend of mine says. He is the “salt of the earth”

With the world feeling like it’s coming apart at the seems, and there is division and strife everywhere, These are the moments that still show that there is good and kindness in the world and sometimes it can be right in front of you when you don’t expect it. Thank you Jack and Katie Sepanek so much for everything and we are so proud and honored to call you friends.
