If true....shocked!

Apparently the whole business decline contributed to his departure. NHRA trimming costs, no telling what “non-essential” salaries are next but I could sure give them some ideas. Losing Lewis is a big blow to all drag racing fans, hope he finds another venue to spread the gospel!

Blooms been around the sport for many decades and brings much to drag racing....stats, announcing, humor and much more. Reminds me of when Bob F. left....Yeah, I got some ideas of "others' that could have gone before he did.

WOW!

Lewis has forgotten more than most will ever know about drag racing.
Was an incredible announcer also.
What a great guy.
Going to be missed.

When NHRA gets rid of guys like Lewis, you wonder who will be next??

Always loved the knowledge of Lewis. Whenever he talked, I learned something.

That's sad to hear. Louis was big back when I was growing up at Englishtown. He probably announced a lot of my losses. :)

Just when you thought that perhaps NHRA has a plan for the remainder of 2020 they just announced PS purse cut to $6K for winning! 15K for nitro...guess the ideas we had didn’t float. This one is getting really ridiculous...guess we’ll see who shows up. PRO teams, welcome to the sportsman ranks!

Can some one please explain to me why they didn't show the Jeg's allstar finals in the Sportsman classes this week on TV? Rain delay, LOTS of extra time to show this, but NOOOOO, they have to show interview, after interview, after interview..... Enough already. I don't want to sit there and watch them interview people, I want to see racing, thats why I'm watching the "Races". Oh, but they listed the winners. BIG DEAL. C'mon NHRA, we want to watch racing, thats why we tune in to the TV in the first place.

Because NHRA has been blinded by the Circus they have created The Pros
Instead of promoting the sportsman divisions
NHRA solid paying piggy bank and trying to figure out how to Keep cash flow going
instead They put all there apples in the Pro division With No Fans
No revenue $$.
If they kept the divisional going the small change $$ add up pays the bills
Dummies with no clue

From Dragzine:

"McMillen notes that there is a collective conversation behind the scenes to boycott the upcoming Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, September 25-27 — an event title-sponsored by his primary backer, Amalie Motor Oil."

Executive salary's come to about $90,000 a week and the entire pro purse is $196,000.
If this non-profit was ever rated by Charity Navigator it would definitely be rated an "F".

Re: What up with nhra...

+Ok Here goes . I feel that racers and NHRA should be involved in making sure NHRA survives this temporary down turn . NHRA has been a very good organization for some racers who run at NHRA races .The environment for all Business and non for Profit companies is not great right now . I support NHRA and hope that the decision-makers at NHRA make the right decisions for racers in the future who race at NHRA. The tuff times right now are just temporary and after the election all will be well hopefully . Running a company is not easy and I hope they make the correct decisions to survive for the Good of all racers regardless if you run at their races . >I just fell off My personal soapbox.

Ya know Don, I'm pretty sure that a great many Racers both pros and Sportsmen have seen a downturn in their businesses and profits. I would think that the "executives" running the organization would realize that. Between that and the lack of events I don't think that it would be a bad thing if the executives decided to take a good sized pay cut as a show-of-faith.

I suspect the decision-makers at NHRA have already taken pay cut all of us and them want NHRA to survive

Well Don, IF (big if) the "decision-makers" have, in reality, taken a pay cut already, it would be beneficial for everyone concerned if they would let the unwashed masses know about it. There's a reason why so many Racers call the NHRA headquarters the "Ivory Tower".

Just maybe the process is going on with changes to be made to survive and satisfy sponsors ,racers, track owners and payables

Damnit Billy, wouldn't it be great if Uncle Bernie and AOC were running NHRA.

FYI, Compton received his $200k in "other reportable compensation" for his position as "former president" as recently as 2018. Try a Google search for "NHRA 990 tax form."

$15k to win in a fuel car? I can remember when you could make that with Stocker or Super Gas car if you had it stickered right.
