350/360/330 SBC with E-brock heads - CRICKETS

I asked this question on another thread a few days back and nobody responded.....So I will try again as a new thread....
************************************************** ***************************

I'm an Old Guy, so help me out....

I looked up the e-Brock specs on these NHRA replacement heads.

I found that 3 of the part numbers had Intake Runner Volumes of 185cc..

I found that 1 of the part numbers had an Intake Runner Volume of 170cc.

I noticed that in the tech specs that the Intake Runner Volume of all of the Factory Cast Iron Heads have an Intake Runner Volume of 165cc..

The e-Brock heads I believe are SS only because they would have to be filled and ported out to size, which is legal in SS but not in Stock.

What did I miss??????

Thanx.

I think you are answering your own question, if I am understanding your post correctly. The Edelbrock would only be legal for S/S because of the larger port size and the restriction of no porting or port mods in Stock.

This question has been asked to NHRA and the answer was you have to cut the intake side to get the CC right. I don’t think it can be done unless you angle mill and I think we know that answer

It's listed as a Replacement Head for Stock in the Classification Guide????

I’ve been waiting for someone to show up with these heads in stock. 185 cc’s on the intake side. Who is brave enough. According to the blueprint specs they are legal but the only way you could get to the right cc’s would be to weld them up and port them.

Here's the answer I got from multiple sources at NHRA Technical:

"If you show up with them on a Stocker, you'll be bounced because we know the ports are over the c.c. limit. If we check them and they come up correct, you'll be bounced because we know you've welded them." :o

I asked why they were still shown as a replacement head for Stock and only one person gave me an answer: "They shouldn't be."

Catch 22..... ;)

Well then I know of several stockers that have these heads (Non Chevy) and I know the heads were produced larger than stock. They were told, "by tech", they have to be X cc's so they did what they had to do to make them legal size. I don't believe NHRA will look properly at these heads in all divisions... Crazy.

Does anybody REALLY think that in these COVID times, there will ever be teardowns, as we all knew them? Hell, there isn't even tech inspection anymore. You write what you want your car to be on your tech card, and your wish is granted. I'm waiting for the first guy to show up with a big-block, claiming it's a 283.

The 170 cc intake could be reduced enough for most small block stockers..
the 185 not so much

Can I get the number for the 170 heads. My heads are 168cc. Thanks

They checked valve lift this year at one race. Throttle bodies. Not a piston pull, but some looks

Mike, NHRA shows the Edelbrock heads as having 172 c.c. int. port volume and accordingly adds 5 h.p. to the factor if you use them.

However, as supplied by Edelbrock, they are 185 cc intake ports.

172 is for SS. Stock is same as factory.

Dart is the same way. I ordered a set and they were 180cc. I called Dart and talked to their quality control and was told that the tooling has been worn making the runners larger than advertised. I do know if you find an original older set they do match up to NHRA's specs.

That's not good...
