Grade Point Questions

I have a few questions on the NHRA grade point system that maybe someone can clarify for me.

1. Is there a NHRA site that shows details of what events grade points were earned? The only place I see any reference to ones grade points is the National Event registration page.

2. How soon after a Divisional or Open event should the points show up on your record?

3. If you think the grade points you have is wrong, who do you call at NHRA to get it fixed?

Thanks

Re: Grade Point Questions

Al it looks like they have not updated the grade points with the open races yet. They did update the grading points with the Rockingham Lucas Oil race. You can call the div 2 office and they can help with those questions.

Al the only place I'm aware of for grade point info is the registration site. In normal years it updates a few days after your last race. If you need assistance contact Jennifer Lowe her email is JGregg@nhra.com.

Al,

If you visit www.NHRARacer.com there's a red button above the Division logo's that says "Points-Stats". Follow that link and it will take you to all the point information as far back as 2008. If there are any concerns, I think Cody Savage, the Division 2 Director would be your point of contact.

Thanks for the help. I'll wait a couple of weeks and see if they show up.

Lew, Al is referring to grade points.....not divisional points.....

Re: Grade Point Questions

You should know how many grade points you have
how many divisional events did you attend and or opens?
that’s how many grade points you have

The grade points are listed to the right of the divisional points as Lew suggested using the drop down menus.

Todd, I 've never seen this either. I see current event points, but that's all.

Like YAC, I have never seen them listed next to the points. I have seen the number of points races listed next to the points though....My apologies to Lew, the Wagonmaster .....

Yes Keith, I've done 5 Divisional's and 3 National Opens for 8 grade points, but the NHRA National Event registration web site only shows 5 grade points. It may be as Brian suggested, that they haven't updated for the National Open races yet, so I will give them some more time.

On the 'Points|Stats' page I see two columns, one with the points total and one labeled N/D. I assume that's National / Divisional events attended. I see nothing for grade points. My N/D number matches the 5 Divisional races I've competed.

Contact your division office or director they can fix it

Re: Grade Point Questions

Log in on the NHRA event registration web page and open the tech card in your account. on the right hand side of the card will list your grade points. When you try to enter an event the system will not let you in unless you have the correct amount of grade points for the event that you are trying to enter. Most popular events it takes 7-8 GP to get in with the low quotas.

Re: Grade Point Questions

Another thing, if you click your name in red it will list the Lucas oil races with your particulars. You can also see the drop down boxes I've selected to get to this... right on top of Al's card.

I emailed Cody at Div 2 about grade points, they are behind in posting the 1/8 mile div 2 opens.

Mark, You can see the pull down menus out to D-2 then stock is selected. The "events" listed on the far right would be the GPs for the Lucas Oil series.

Todd,

That does not include the national open events. I believe that Mike said he received and email stating they are behind on including the national open grade points to accounts. I currently have 5 for divisionals but missing the three from the national opens. I will wait till the end of next week to contact Cody as he is in Vegas for the last race of the year.

Upon further review, YAC and myself are correct....The Lucas oil points show JUST the Lucas oil events , they show no grade points that INCLUDE the D2 National open series.....

This does not include the option for national open points. Something for NHRA to work into the system at a later date I suppose.

Re: Grade Point Questions

Okay, thanks .
I don't see anything or informative here.
I suppose, if you forgot how many Divs you went to this year, (minus Opens) you could look it up there. Then ,of course, if you forgot how many you went to last year ( minus Opens) to see if that number is greater, you could refresh your memory there.
Carry on...

My question is, if you're in the mix for a Stock or Super Stock championship and the last two or three National event quotas are full, does the N.H.R.A. make exceptions for your entry request?

Re: Grade Point Questions

NHRA stated earlier in the year that they were studying grade points for next year given the 2020 turmoil. Hopefully they will decide to use last year’s or this year, whichever is highest when entering National events next year. Otherwise our Canadian friends and many others will have a hard time entering events. Know they can do the three year average to determine your grade point total but they don’t do that automatically. In any case perhaps they’ll release the method for determining grade points and of course the quotas this weekend at the “finals”.

Good point about our canadian friends, they got screwed bigtime, let's hope they can get a break here on grade points!

Frank, there have been quotas for a long time, but they were realistic and reflected the previous year's demand.
The ridiculously low quotas started maybe 4-5 years ago, when the Fox Sports TV package began. NHRA decided they didn't want too many of those pesky Stockers around on Sunday for the audience to see.

I wonder if NHRA is considering the look of empty stands on TV? With small fields at Vegas, the pits were half empty, after 2 rounds of sportsman eliminations, before the Pro categories got their first qualifying run. With all the racers leaving early including their "crew", literally thousands of spectators leave before the Pro's hit the track. In our group 14 people left the race early as a result of how the race is managed by NHRA. I know Covid is a major factor, but the pits looked like a ghost town by 11:00 am Saturday. Sponsors want to advertise in front of the masses. A few hundred people in the stands and empty pits is not a good look.

Mine are too. Cody posted on FB earlier this week that he had them updated and to contact him if they weren't correct.
