Herb McCandless is a great guy and certainly knows how to go fast, and as I was watching the podcast I wondered why more Mopar class racers don't pick his brain.

I would like for Herb to publish some books. Especially on his suspension and steering tricks like tweaking the k member for more camber.

Very entertaining interview. Herb is very insightful of his time and successes with Mopar.

Great interview of one of drag racing icons, unlimited amount of knowledge and stories that could take hours to tell. Brian and Herb make the Hemi Challenge at Indy even better with Herbs lifelong history with Chrysler and his experiences behind the wheel. I make sure I'm in the stands for the Hemi Challenge every year for 2 reasons, one to see these historical cars perform and 2 to listen to what Herb adds to the commentary from the tower.

We've been to many seminars and talks at Carlisle Chrysler Nats with Herb. A great storyteller too. He's the best!

Great interview of one of the greats in Mopar history. I agree, there should be a book by him, or about him. Lots of knowledge there.

Re: How Pro Stock Started With Herb McCandless

Jeff and Jim were friends of mine back in in the day in Stamford Connecticut and had some great Herb McCandless stories as well as Sox & Martin and Jake King. Herb drove the 'Cuda for them at a couple of match races and Frank Russo of "Russo's Rat" fame (SS/E '69 Chevelle from Dover Dragstrip) drove the Demon and then eventually bought it from them. Jeff was from a very wealthy family and had some very fast Mopar street cars before having the 'Cuda built for $22K.

"Jeff Jeruss driving the "Jeruss & Kilmartin", Sox & Martin built '72 Pro Stock Plymouth Barracuda. Jeff and James Kilmartin of Stamford, Connecticut raced this 'Cuda then, in '73 traded it and a bunch of cash back to Sox & Martin for the famous Dodge Demon that Herb McCandless made so well known with his bumper scrapping wheel stand."
