Thanks for starting this thread, Gary. This month has lots of torque.

To borrow from my favorite toy store - Big Blocks 'R' Us.

Thanks, but I also offer an apology for not giving any props to the Mouse Motor Racers😔....especially given our 2020 Stock Eliminator World Champ Jody Lang made 305 a WAY COOL day this year!!!!😀 Besides, horsepower-wise, I have a contribution to March because of my 3.6L 308hp Chevy Colorado!😀

After checking Ask.com, I realized that Buick created a 401ci "Nailhead" V8 that was in 1964 Buick Wildcats! Moreover, 425 will be significant for Buick fans also because of the engine mid-60's Riviera's, plus Wildcats and Electras also used. The month will conclude with the 430ci big block for those models as well in the late '60's.

You beat me to it. Go Beach Boys!!!!!!!!!!

My first car was a '64 Biscayne. That was 53 years ago. If I still had it, it would now be a 4 speed 409 car.

Re: Happy Muscle Motor Month!!!!

Not really a muscle motor but in 1958 Edsel had a 410 cu. in. MEL V-8. Also, Mercury offered a 410 version of the FE engine in 1965. That's all I can think of for today.

Dave Ley 04-10-2021 12:03 PM

Re: Happy Muscle Motor Month!!!!

Actually, The 410 was available in the 66 and 67 model year Mercs. not 65.
Crazy bout a Mercury !

Thanks, Dave, for the info. My source (wikipedia) said introduced in 1965, so I assumed it was in the 65 Merc. My bad - imagine that bad info on the internet. What will they think of next?? Maybe I just read it wrong. After all I am human.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that it's Steve Wann Day!

Nice job Tim. Either the regular 421 or the Super Duty, both very good. I had friends that had both of them.

Re: Happy Muscle Motor Month!!!!

I almost forgot about this... I know it's not a muscle motor, though I am old enough to remember when some of the hottest cars in town ran them, but today is the equivalent of February 83rd! So how about a little love for my 283?

Today and the next few days represent many important engines in the detroit car lineup.

Dave, nice job getting your 283 in here - cool.

That engine was introduced to the motoring public the same year I was born, so that's cool. Furthermore, as long as it has a c.i. or hp rating between 401 and 430, it ranks in my book as a contributor to a super strong month. Thanks for the addition of it!

X's two on the props to Dave and all other 283 racers!

Belated props to Steve Wann, Dwight Machael, and anyone else racing the wicked 413, and circa "enginelabs.com", "the 413 Max Wedge that the Beach Boys immortalized gave the owner 410 to 420 horsepower and right around 500 pound-feet of torque."

Kudos to you Carguy49 for the significance of this week. Starting yesterday thru Friday, there's either a c.i. displacement or advertised hp rating these first six days of the week...

HAPPY MUSCLE MOTOR WEEK!!!!

Thanks Tim for beating me today.

The mighty Ford Thunderbolt and a few other models. Tasca Ford comes to mind.
The COPO Camaro and Big Block Corvettes and a few by names like Yenko, Baldwin Motion and others. Wow what a time to order a car.

The '63 Z11 "Mystery Motor" 427, makes me wish it wasn't such a mystery and more Impala's, Bel-Air's, and even Biscayne's would've been made with that engine, so they could've been allowed in Stock and Super Stock.

The late-60's 427 L88's and ZL1's definitely give me reasons to love the AA/SA class, and Ford's 427 Fairlane Thunderbolt, also allowed Chevy and Ford to play with the Chrysler 426 Hemi in that 9sec class. Nothing would be cooler, than to see a 4-wide heads up class race between a '64 Ford Thunderbolt, a '64 Plymouth Savoy, a '65 Dodge Coronet, and a '69 Camaro....how about it guys and gals?

Hey Bob Frey, how high would that be on your COOL-O-METER????

My favorite is a Pontiac 428, faithfull, consitant, and a money winner.

Re: Happy Muscle Motor Month!!!!

How about a 428 Tri-Power 4 Speed Catalina with 8 lug wheels???? How cool would that be. If anyone had one, you are a very lucky person.

The nearest I came to that was a 70 G.T.O. with a 4 Speed and Ram Air 4. Non original engine, but I made it as close as I could.

I am NOT a fan of 4 wide Drag Racing, but that combo would be OFF the Cool Charts.

Carguy29,
I know a young guy that just put a 428 Tri-Power in a 67' Firebird that belongs to his Dad...The car sat for quite a few years and he wanted to fix it back up and get it running so his Dad could drive it again.....

This sounds like a story of Dad and Mom doing a great job of raising kids and then son doing this for Dad. Kudos to both the parents and son, a feel good story for sure.

Of course, one would have to assemble the tri-power 428s, seeing the last tri-powers were in 66..(389 and 421) and the first 428s were in 1967 (Q-jet) ;-)
