"Live" from the Charlotte 4 Wide Nationals

Hi folks I'm not there yet but on the way. I'm having some phone issues so not sure how much reporting we will do but I'll do my best. I have a full tank of fuel which should get me there and almost back! Cross your fingers that we get enough to get home but we'll worry about that after the racing. First things first!

Looking forward to your posts. Watch out for the delay in Rock Hill, SC.

You all should have good weather all weekend. Sunshine and fairly fast air to go fast. Enjoy the racing!!

We got here about 4 and drove right in and parked. We are on the back 40 ofcourse which is where we prefer to be.
As mentioned it will be a chamber of commerce weather type of weekend with highs in the 70's and lows at night in the 40's. It should be quite a bit faster than it was at Atlanta a couple weeks ago and it's Charlotte so it's a little downhill.
Currently we are grilling and partaking in an adult beverage or three. Stock is first out tomorrow at 9:30!

Only found one car parked outside near us tonight, not sure what class but if it's a Worner it must be Super Stock.

Good morning, it's currently 56 degrees with a DA around 850. Stock goes out in about an hour.

I've searched high and low for a sheet and I don't know what the hell the problem is. Running SG now and no sheet, hard to qualify as slow car when you don't know where anyone is.

FWIW they just went live on FB starting with Comp.

Wow, Sterling living dangerously, heads up with Tex in stock and after first Q he split the Worner brothers on the SS sheet, what’s the odds?

It was Roy Hill. He needs prayers.

Well that first round stung a little, I'm hanging around for sportsman rounds tomorrow morning and will get some pictures to post. Good luck to all the winners.

We're about to start 2cd round for Stock. As most know Roy Hill was walking behind a SC dragster yesterday, she had pulled into the water box and as she always does went to back through the water again since there appears to be a water shortage here also and struck Roy. I've been told Roy has a broken leg but don't know of any other injuries. It appeared he struck his head pretty hard but I was told by someone who spoke to him that he said his head was too hard to hurt. Get well Mr Roy Hill we want to see you back out here soon.

I was lucky enough to win super comp at the Southern Nationals a couple of weeks ago ( in a door car) I for the life of me do not understand why some of the dragsters pull through the water box and then back up through it and then back forward through it before they do a burnout. No one will ever convince me that any of that is necessary. I think that is a practice that needs to stop and am very surprised that more people haven’t been run over because of their practice of doing that.
Chuck

I don’t understand why that is a common burnout practice either, but if you are in a race car, that is your area to do what you need to do. Same applies to the starting line. Anyone with a broom or whatever better have their head on a swivel.

I’ve seen the video of this incident and Roy just wasn’t paying attention.

Hey guys the idea behind it is to get the tires as damp as possible. You have to remember they don't have line locks to keep them in the water. At Charlotte I can understand it they were keeping such a small area of water even the Stockers were having trouble. Roy was the first to say he wasn't paying attention and poor Lauren was devastated. On a side note she has been able to pull herself together and is in the semis today.
Congratulations Chuck on your win it was way cool to watch and we were pulling for you!

Previous unpleasant, and could have been unpleasant, experiences and situations witnessed have taught me to never turn my back on a car in that area without a wall between us and always be aware of what every car around you is doing. Listen to them if you don't have eyes on them. Behind a car in the water or doing a burnout is not a good place to be. Not a place to be loafing around.

Wishes for Roy to recover quickly.

Update on Roy, he's still in the hospital and will be there a few more days but is doing well I'm told. He will leave the hospital and go to rehab afterwards.
