Stocker Horsepower

What kind of horsepower does it take to get a 3400lb Stocker into the low 10's and maybe into the 9's in good air?

Takes close to 580/600 Hp to get our SS to run those numbers.

We do not have any Stockers that weigh that than can do those numbers

We run nearly exclusively = Engines that are under 350 CID and Mopar to boot at that.

To get in the 9.90's. I would say you would need to average over 600 hp. across the range.

It would be a little over 600 but how the engine carries HP past peak is very important.

132 MPH @ 3400 = 602 STP HP
1320/132 = 10.00 Min

All of it. You need all of it.

My bracket car weighs 3360 and made 595 hp and runs 10.0 in good Az air.

Hunter you have me curious on what you mean Carrie's HP past the peak.

The more the HP hangs on past peak HP RPM. The higher the RPM you can shift at and the more rear gear you can run. The opposite would be if HP nose dives after peak HP RPM.

I have seen this mentioned a number of times and am curious about what factors contribute to an engine's ability to carry HP past peak.

This has me curious as well. So it's sounding like intead of worring about peak HP your focus in Stock is to have a long HP curve?

Quoting a good friend of mine from the left coast "Its the nature of the beast". Meaning, in this instance, that some engines, probably depending most on the cylinder heads, will be able to go quite a bit farther up the range past peak hp. than others can.

Rick,

It will vary based on what someone is running. I have seen a cam change do it.

How many people when they dyno their engine make a pull more than a couple of hundred RPM past peak HP to really know what it does?

I think it would depend on the intended use of the engine, but more people than you might think run well past peak when dyno testing, they just don't show that data, just my opinion.

I've echoed your statement for a long time as well. We run our engine on the dyno to the same RPM that we run on the track. If it crosses the finish line at 8000, why would you not want to dyno it to 8000 and understand how it is responding?
