Looks like a couple of stick figures. Doesnt look like something youd spend a lot of time trying to win.

Personally I like the old one better. The new one doesn't even look proportioned.

I heard everytime an IRON MAN was made that Bill Bader got royalties off of them ,because he bought the rights to the original IRON MAN.I liked the old one but at least now he won't get anything else out of IHRA.Bill was a very smart business man as it shows in this case .No more Bill Bader iron men "GOOD"!!!

It is about twice as heavy also.Still an IRON MAN and if you guys win one you will like it just as good.At least that was all IHRA changed.Be thankfull for that ..easy on the IRON MAN guys and gals...COULD BE WORST!@!@@#@@!@

If you were fortunate enough to win one of these trophies and find that it really doesn't go with your decor,I'm sure you can find somebody on Ebay that would love to have it.

Re: new ironman?

Tall and thin, particularly on a smaller base, doesn't give these trophies a "substantial" look to them. Given the amount of money spent to have these designed and produced, I wish they would've asked for more opinions before finalizing it. Even just a little beefier body, separate the feet some, and arms crossed over his chest would give a far more powerful stance and impression. Last year, the magazine changed the name from "Iron Man" to "Ironman". There may be some backstory to that subtle change that I'm not aware of, but that also left the typed word with a less imposing look. If they wanted it one word, they could still use "IronMan"... I know that's really nitpick stuff, but it's the minute details that add up to make a big difference.

That being said - it's something to win, so I'll fight tooth and nail to collect them.

I say we get Jim Harrington to model for them. Who wouldn't want a "Harry"? ;)

Maybe Richard Simmons was the model for it and they really want to call it a IronHomo

Re: new ironman?

Looks like the Barbie Man.

Before there were two different Ironmen?one for Knoll Gas Nitro Jam winners and a smaller one for winners on the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour. This conveyed the incorrect assumption that wins on the Summit Pro-Am Tour meant less than a win on the Knoll Gas Nitro Jam circuit. Now the same Ironman will be given to winners in both series with the only difference being the base. ( They do mean less )

Now they just need to do the same with the payouts

Michael Beard 11-20-2007 03:38 PM

Re: new ironman?

National event wins *are* a bigger deal than Pro-Am wins. They pay more, the magazine coverage is longer, with larger pics and more pics, and most of the time they get TV coverage. I'm fine with having the smaller versions for Pro-Ams, and bigger ones for Nationals. It probably just cost a bunch more to make two different sizes.

I liked the Drag Review cover (sorry, still can't call it DRM... Drag Review Magazine magazine?) with Skooter wearing his firejacket and helmet in the Uncle Sam pose "I want YOU for the Summit Super Series".

Macy wanted to build an army with his Iron Men. With the variations, maybe we can make a chess set!

I feel bad dissin' on the new trophy... we appreciate the effort, and we appreciate trophies of any kind, but for such a huge thing, I guess we would've liked to have had some input.

Re: new ironman?

What happen to all the IHRA love everyone was feelin just a few days ago. IHRA is so great everyone needs a CM (bracket car) car and a GAY looking Iron whatever you call it this week. Bill Bader left just before the ship started to sink. What a mickey mouse organzation it has become, but then again it was not that great to start out with.
NHRA Better performance cars, no crate motor and now better looking trophys to. Just three more reasons to race NHRA. Like you need three anyway.

Re: new ironman?

is the new trophy leaning? it sure looks that way, i don't mean to take anything from the champs but that thing sucks! danny or damion, is this the exact trophy or is it bigger? danny, i know you have the "old" style also, it is huge, compared to a nat. or div. ironman. and just (imo) slightly below an nhra wally in glamor, i have both and i like the nhra wally better, (the only good thing i can say about them). don't mind me, im still pissed on the price of gas! but to run for an ironman just took a backseat to bracketracing....

Re: new ironman?

I actually like it, but I guess that's the architect in me. As for comparing it to the old and nhra's. The
octogon shape base is nicer. I will be working harder this year to earn the new "man" for sure.

Keith...I hope to see you more often...with dustin @ pitts bar down the road.

Keith , The trophy looks a lot better in person than in the picture. It also is much heavier and taller, and a very shiney gold.I personally liked the old one ,but it "aint'" coming back. The more i look at it the more it grows on me .Like anything else ,it is a change and we will adjust to it .At least we still have our FI classes in stock. Now yall quit picking on my son's "new look iron man"!!!????<>!! lol /SEE YALL AT PRI.

Rich, it's called "cheaters" and i will somehow make it to that one if only for the entertainment....

Re: new ironman?

I have to say that I wasn't a big fan of the old Iron Man. Seeing it next to a Wally there was just no comparison IMHO. That said, I didn't think the Iron Man could get worse. I guess I was wrong. Now I just think it looks like any other generic trophy that you might win at your bowling league, or in little league baseball. Too bad.

But, I'll still be racing for it, and I'm certainly not going to turn it down when they go to hand it to me!

And I totally agree. It would have been nice to have had a couple of different designs presented to the racers and allowed us to choose the new Ironman, rather than having the gymnast statue thrust upon us.

As for the name, I'm not sure why they didn't make it IronMan instead of Ironman. I initially thought that it might have something to do with legal repercussions from the Ironman triathlons, or Timex's Ironman watches, but both of those are spelled exactly the same as the new Ironman name. So, I'm not really sure why they didn't keep the capital M. I'm guessing because nobody really thought of it.

Of course, we could possibly force their hand by alerting Timex and the Ironman triathlon of the potential trademark violation...:D

It kind of looks like if you put a Barbie wig on it it turns into Paris Hilton.
I just missed on two of the old ones at MIR this season so I'll be back in 08 to try and earn a Paris.
