Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

Got here at noon. Already 4 rows of rigs stacked in staging lanes. Coming from West on 70, the Ronald Regan exit is under construction, marked by barrels. It comes quick; barrel 0, Phish 1.

Good job parking. We stacked for about 2 hours and rolled in no problem. Phish

Mr. Phish,
My money is on you.
Bring home the Head.

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

We rolled in at around 9:30 pm and stacking went very smoothly. Had a little rain last night but should be ok to park.

Weather will be cooler and dryer than BG. A lower temperature will make the track crews job easier to keep the bald spots away. It’s Indy and everyone brought their best stuff to show and tell day, Class Day. For me and the rest of us crazy’s it’s the day we work all of the year for. Win, lose, or draw for me it’s the best day of racing!

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

Well this IS Patsy! Figured we might as well just add to Stephen’s post!

And this is about parking!! All is going well! We are out in the back 40 in front of the old abandoned house! We were not given a choice to park up front! With JEGS All-Stars, Factory Showdown and all other special classes, there wasn’t room for regular people!! But we have a great level, mowed spot.

Lots of cones out saving places but that’s ok. Everyone wants to park with their buddies. We mostly wanted “evening shade”!

It hasn’t rained yet today but tomorrow looks pretty bad . At least when we begin racing on Wednesday, the weather looks great! Cooler and sunny!

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

Part of Indy is always the rumers heard in the pits. The best one is two parts: part one is Route 66 will have a national event. Part two the All Star race will be contested during that race at Route 66.

This begs the question will Indy return to the traditional schedule for S S/S with technical inspections of parts. If NHRA decides to go with a different schedule it will be the downfall of class racing.

In Brian Lohnes' podcast he said there were going to be some big announcements this week. Hopefully this is one of them.

Today has been a big parking day and getting everything ready for tomorrow! The weather has been wonderful! Such a change from Bowling Green! Only going to be about 60 in the morning for Q1 but no barometer. Probably won’t be super quick! Stock is first out at 7:45! We get 2 qualifying runs then run class!

More later!

Well we are up and ready! They should be 📞 us to the lanes shortly! We are down to 137 stockers and there are usually a couple that don’t make it for first run. It is the coolest that it has been for first run in a while! A little breeze too!

More later!

Notice schedule shows 87.9 fm station. Any chance we will be able to at least hear without taking a second mortgage?

Mother Nature has been helping the “I don’t want to go a second under” racers. She has supplied a head wind to help slow everyone down.

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

I have a request, for someone in the pits at Indy. Irvin Johns is listed on DRC as driving an '05 Cobalt. He's #18 on the SS Q-1 list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

That is NOT the car listed on the pre-entry list. In 2019, Todd Frantz drove an Irvin Johns '05 Cobalt to the GT/FA class win. At that time, it was powered by a 428 Pontiac engine.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2019#indextop

So, I'd like to ask a favor of someone with access to the pits. Please go to the Johns/Frantz SS pit, take a look at the engine in the '05 Cobalt, perm #391, & post what brand engine it is. Will really appreciate it if someone who has access & the time will do this for me & all Pontiac fans who may be interested.

IF it does have Pontiac power, please post a pic of the engine, if you have a way to do this.

Thanks in advance ! :)

By one car it made it to Mineshaft conditions. Sure isn't fast. 128th right now is .404 under

I believe when he came up for Q1 Allen said it was 428 Poniac powered.

Thanks for the info ! :)

Would love to see a pic of it in the little Cobalt, if somebody there has the time & ability to do it.

I have these older pics of the car I think I'm talkin about. Can't be certain this is the same car, or that if it is, it still looks exactly like this.

Question on the mineshaft rule. If it meats the mineshaft criteria in qualifying is it wide open for the rest of the meet?

You still get automatic HP if you go 1.20 and faster.

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

I see I was wrong and it missed being mineshaft by one car after 2nd qualifier. I'm sure it got there after 1st round of class. The head wind was surely a factor.

It has been a really long day but things are finished up now! Lots of great class runs!! Looks like DRC still has not posted so I will take some pics of qualifying and Stock ladder and post on Facebook.

Also Bill Skillman wanted me to let everyone know that they are invited to their pit tomorrow night at 6:30 for Barbq. It is always a great meal! Thank you for all that you do !!

Anthony Bertozzi was DQed in Super Stock. Seems strange with no tear down. Anyone know what happened.

Floyd Staggs 09-01-2021 10:30 PM

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

Bertozzi would be the last guy you would thin of being dq'd.

Did he break something on the first run and simply not weigh or fuel check? He wasn't on the Q1 or Q2 sheets and didn't run class either?

Great air for INDY this should be the last qualifier this morning before class and everyone really lets it hang out, but those days are looonngg gone :(

Re: Live from Indy (Not Patsy)

Anybody find out what happened to Bertozzi? I heard he was at Sal Biondo's funeral yesterday so that might be why he wasn't on the qual sheets.
