"Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Hey guys, we made it in last night to the DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals and are in the stacking area. It has rained all night. Its been a light rain for most of the night and its still damp with a ongoing mist. Last week at Maple Grove the race went well, and I hope the same happens here.
The weather does not looks as good so it will be a challenge for sure. Although the car counts are low here, there are 7 sportsman classes competing along with both alcohol classes and pro mod, and of course the 4 pro classes in a 3 day race.... oops almost for got nostalgia pro stock. Parking was supposed to start at 8am, and as I type this, no one has moved into the track. More later... |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Well Ken beat me to it ! We are #74 in line! It is a little before 9 and looks like about a third of the rigs have moved out. We heard at Indy that sportsman were all going to be parked on the gravel side. Just waiting to see how it all turns out.

Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Parking is going well. On a humorous note one of the race teams left in such a hurry that they left there pit bike in the middle of stacking area, all alone.

Please verify where you are parked. Would like to stop by and say hi. Butch. |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Hey Patsy, I forgot you guys were here, I would have been more than happy for you to start the thread. You are correct, Stock and Super Stock are on the gravel side. They want pairing of the cars to go smoother than in the past with cars on both sides.

See you guys this afternoon! |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Yo Ken,
Should be plenty of room on the paved side with the low car count. Agree a little on matching up if you had 100+ S/SS. Oh well. See y’all Friday. Might be easier to find you. Butch. |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Butch, I'm parked at the end of the stands on the gravel side of the track. I'm parked near the Fletcher's.
|
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Butch,
We are parked behind the grandstands where Pro Mod usually parks. About halfway down! Come on by to see us! |

Not many cars out today... but I did find a few. Our start time for tomorrow is 9am with Stock.

Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Thanks for the pictures Ken. Was looking for the Volkman's and your pictures tell me exactly where they are parked. See you tomorrow I hope. Gates open at 8 and I'll be there waiting hopefully.

Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
“Perfect Pam” Marshall and Jim had bunch of us over for home made lasagna, yum yum, last night what a treat and what a meal!
Of course after dinner we heard some great stories. To my surprise three of us built and flew model airplanes. I think Jim Bailey and others still do. |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Parking went very well. Our spot is behind the grandstands where Pro Mod have parked before. All the spaces were very well laid out and everyone stayed inside the lines. Getting out my be a problem but that’s another day. We have two “Q” runs then round one on Saturday.

That humidity reading is right on! 100%. Heavy sprinkles! Looks like 9am start may be delayed!
Yes dinner last night was wonderful! Thanks again Pam and Jim!! |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
55 cars made the first run in Stock with Jim Marshall unofficially no. 1.

Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Sorry to barge in, but is this a "audio only" event Friday on NHRA.TV? Anything is possible, I guess!
|
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Larry Hill,,it was a pleasure talking to you and trading stories about the past and present. Pam and Jim did a great job on all the food.

Anyone that's there around Rob Bihl tell him he's got a freebie in the morning I'm not going to make first round. I told the staging lane person so he didn't have to sit around waiting for me.

James, so sorry to here you can't make it.
Stock and Super Stock are done for the day. Its seems like its becoming a habit, another smooth race with no issues that I have seen. I might have to rethink my national event schedule for next year. We got a little be of a late start and there was an oil down in Stock... photo below. Looks like Bill Howell had engine failure. I did here some Super Comp cars had issues coming off the stop and not making it down the track. The track may have needed more work, but the 2nd time shot for Super Comp all went well. I will be back later with Super Stock photos... |

Good morning all, Stock out first, they just were called to the lanes. Two round this morning, Stk, SC, SS, SG, and two more rounds later today. The weather looks great today, clear skies with no rain insight for today.
A few more photos from yesterdays action... |

Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Is Bill Howell's engine problem terminal?
|
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
It looked terminal from all the smoke yesterday! Then he was a no show for round one this morning!
Well we have made it through 2 rounds today! We don’t run again until tonight after 2 rounds of pros! Weather is great! Overcast and about 80! |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
We have had a little carnage this weekend in stock it was Bill Howell losing a 428 CJ in his 70 Mustang and East Coast Cooter broke something that made him a no show first round. In S/S it was Cody Phillips having bad luck in his GT car. In S/C Rusty Cook broke a tie bar and a lifter turned sideways. Almost forgot Joe Tysinger had to change his engine before first round of S/S

Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
Man has it been a long day! We won 2nd round this morning about 10:30 and have waited around all day for the next 2 rounds! But we made it through them! And now we are down to the semifinals and 4 cars!! We don’t run until after 2 rounds of pros!
Thanks to Del and Linda Britt for the wonderful prime rib tonight! And to Pam Marshall and Linda Barrett for the veggies! So until tomorrow!! And we get to sleep in! |
Re: "Live From" DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals
WOW! what a meal! Thanks Dell, Linda, Pam, and Linda. I’m sure there is a particular wine that would have complemented the meal, but that ice cold beer was way better.
