Prayers Needed for a Very Good Friend

A few months ago, Jim Smulligan, a well-known and respected Division 1 Super Gas racer was diagnosed with later stage esophageal cancer. Esophageal cancer is very difficult to cure since it is usually diagnosed at a later stage as is the case with Jim. I have been in contact with him and he is currently continuing chemo treatments with ten or so left before a scan will be performed to see if he is winning the battle. As always with chemo treatments, Jim has lost a lot of weight and is sick daily. He is trying to stay positive and hoping for the best. He is even looking to possibly buy another race car.

Anyone who has ever met Jim and his wife Kathy know that they are both wonderful people and great racers. Therefore, I ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers because they need the extra strength to keep going and to win their battle against cancer.

Should you wish to contact the Smulligans please send me a private message.

(No Harry, I did not type this myself.)

Best of Luck Jim, our prayers are with you. I have never met Jim but why do things like this happen to good people as opposed to it happening to some scum of the earth that has either killed, raped, or stole from someone?...I wish the best.

I'm very sorry to hear this, though with his winning record I'm sure he'll have no problem beating this too.

We'll keep Jim and his family in our thoughts...

Jim & Kathy,

Best of luck in your fight against this thing. Way to many people are fighting this thing in one way or another.

Would'nt it be nice if more of our tax dollars and the Gov't were helping with this type of fight instead of some of the other one's they're fighting.

Re: Prayers Needed for a Very Good Friend

Jim & Kathy,
We want to send our wishes for recovery for Jim and strength for both of you. Stay focused on the daily things and plan for the future. There are three questions to consider: Do I like what has happened? Can I change what has happened? Can I accept what has happened?
A dentist I worked for told me that when he was battling leukemia he asked himself those questions and found that the answers were NO, No and Yes, which helped him during the treatments, hospitalizations etc.
Those questions helped me when Rascal bit me at Englishtown, causing me to go to the ER and followup plastic surgery on my nose. I realize that this is nothing like what you are dealing with, but I hope they help you in this battle.
This is a little lengthy, but we realized that something was going on when we weren't seeing you at the races. We will keep you both in prayer, find comfort in the obvious impact you've made in many lives.
