It's a beautiful day in Chandler, AZ so let's talk about the West Coast chassis building family's "Great White Whale". Did you know PMR Race Cars is guaranteeing a $10K Stock/Super Stock purse in Las Vegas on March 18-20, 2022? Please subscribe to my YouTube page for all latest Driver Interviews content!

The young man from Louisville has come out firing in 2022, already snagging a divisional event win in Stock and Super Stock in his first two races. Here we revisit our interview from the 2021 Class Racers Revival from Madison, IL where Austin was driving Kevin Wells' big block Chevelle.

He's not on the list for Vegas and I was looking at going there :(

This Ohio native dusted to cobwebs off this 396ci beauty a few years back and shifted his way into the winners circle at the hugely popular Class Racer Nationals at Numidia Dragway in PA. Tom gives us a quick rundown of his father's old car that was once competing in Modified Production before being restored to Stock Eliminator trim. Subscribing to my channel can help me get to more races.

Re: Driver Interviews

I'm sure you guys get LOTS of suggestions as to who you should interview.

So, I'll add my opinion.

Scott & Brad Burton.

Why ?

(1) Scott has built & driven some really quick old school Pontiacs, for the last 20 years or so.

(2) One of those cars was the quickest Pontiac powered Stocker ever built, which was a 1970 RAIV Formula Firebird.

(3) One was the '72 Bird that Brad has driven to 2 nat Stock championships. It's the same car he just drove to win BOTH races at the div 7 doubleheader.

(4) One Bird runs GT Super Stock & was #1 qualifier at one of the weekend div 7 races.

(5) They even have a '74 Bird Stocker that Scott's wife drives occasionally.

(6) Together, they've won quite a few races. Brad even won one of the Spring Fling bracket racing events, in his Stocker.

Bottom line is that with all the experience they've had building & racing mostly old school Pontiac powered, Stock/SS cars, they seem to be just the kind of guys you'd wanna interview.

Another good candidate is Bob Michael.

He has built & raced LOTS of Stock & SS Pontiacs thru the years. Not sure, but I assume he has more experience building & racing Stock/SS Pontiacs than anybody else. So, he should have a vast knowledge of not only the old school Pontiacs, but how racing has changed thru the years. He's definitely one of the veterans of the sport.

The Burtons are also not on the list for Vegas unless they can enter later.

There is no shortage of Third Generation Camaros in NHRA Stock and Super Stock drag racing but it is hard to find one with hot magenta valve covers! Take a look inside this clean car driven by the young lady from Louisville, who was out having fun in St. Louis last year. We hope to see her again this year in pursuit of the big money up for grabs at the 2022 Class Racers Revival. Re: Driver Interviews

" The Burtons are also not on the list for Vegas unless they can enter later..."

I obviously don't know their schedule. Scott lives & CO, so is most always at the big Bandimere races.

I think Brad lives in WA state, so will probably run the Northwest Nats.

Both Brad & his Mom have FB pages. So, I assume someone could easily find out where they'll be racing.

I've enjoyed & shared your interviews of Don Kennedy, Leo Glasbrenner, & others. Greg Stanfield lives less than 80 miles from me. So I really enjoyed his interview.

We raced at the small Hallsville TX track, with his Dad, Howard Stanfield, back in the mid '70's. Greg was probably at many of those races. He may have driven their Stocker before he had a street driver license. Probably did. I remember that Mr. Howard was one of the nicest racers we ever met. He never failed to come by & say hi & ask how our cars were running. One of the really nice guys of the sport. Guessing that his son & grandson are also nice guys.

Ohh yes we can have a Burton on the podcast eventually for sure. I thought you meant an actual in-person driver interview, of which I am limited to the amount of traveling I can do especially in this economy, so I was hoping if I went to Vegas I could get a lot of good stories.

"...I thought you meant an actual in-person driver interview..."

Sorry.

I MUCH prefer the long sit-down interviews. That gives time to learn some their past racing experiences, what they are currently doing, and what their plans are.

And all 3 of the guys I mentioned have quite a bit of past & present they can talk about. Lookin forward to their interviews ! :)

While a rainy Gainesville has us down, new driver interviews are going up. The Maryland welder loves the Plymouth line and has consistently proven capable of running very far under the D/SA class index in this 340ci '70 Duster. The 2021 NHRA Gatornationals Super Stock champion from Virginia is always smiling and friendly until it comes time to strap in the driver's seat. Transitioning to the later body styles under the Super Stock "GT" guide, Sterling has consistently taken his professionally purpose-built machines into late rounds.

The well known auto dealer out of Indiana is ready to throw his hat back into the NHRA Factory Showdown ring after taking the NMCA championship three years in a row. An exciting heads-up drag racing class, Factory Showdown is the main platform for the big three domestic automakers to show off their most updated muscle car advancements of the last few years. However, this horsepower must be transferred to a 9" wide rear tire which makes for quite the tuning challenge!

Everybody roots for the station wagon! And who wouldn't want to race one? With excellent weight transfer and 360 vision of the hard charging chaser, your only enemy is a 2mph crossbreeze. This 350ci Malibu sports a shiny new paint job and the young EMS student has plans to employ a very big name to increase the horsepower pretty soon.

In case anyone did not see the Chad Langdon interview, here it is. I will try to post a few this week. Bobby your interviews seem to get better and better both of these were awesome , I had no idea that Chad Langdon's family owned Clays Cams since 1967 and its glad to hear his health's better and back racing. I also didn't know that Robert Pond designed his block and heads . I remember reading about both these men when I was growing up and racing. Retired now I really enjoy your interviews keep up the great work you guys do and Thanks

Re: Driver Interviews

I'm sure I missed a few but here are the two latest Driver Interviews.

All the way in from Sweden, Markus rocks the number 8 on his window as he joins us at the Las Vegas National Event. The former pro stock crewman utilizes the clutch knowledge he acquired over the years and has figured out how to prove some skeptics wrong about the radial tire application on a big block stick shifted car!

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qQpVCR13NXc" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In Part 1 of our Scott Burton Driver Interview, we discuss his Stock Eliminator Cobra Jet. Powered by a self built 428ci motor, the retired airline pilot snagged a great deal after selling his previous Firebird stocker and has proven to be a real threat in the new car, winning the division championship in 2021 and taking part in the JEGS All Star race.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/s5N5amby9vY" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In Part 2 we learn about Pontiac 428 power in a car that puts me back in junior high riding around with my older cousin.

Re: Driver Interviews

Coming at you from Las Vegas a few weeks ago, my new friend Jesse Sanderson took some time to explain some similarities and differences between the 340 Duster and Dart, notably the hood scoop that comes on the Dart. Jesse and family are a force to be reckoned with at the track and wait til you see what sits in front of his shifter! This was my first attempt at in-car footage with my new camera so it was a learning curve with the exposure settings.

The New Jersey native flexed the muscle of his '69 Camaro at the recent PC Richard & Son National Open held at Atco Dragway. The 350ci/255hp motor is currently rated at 280hp for NHRA competition, putting it in G class with a minimum weight of 3250lbs. Utilizing a fresh powerplant, compliments of Steve Ficacci Racing Engines, Ron blasts the G/SA index of 12.00 seconds for possibly one of the quickest runs ever made by a G car. We get to see and hear the story behind the car, its build, and eye catching paint job.

How about a numbers matching 1967 Z/28 Camaro Rally Sport that isn't being stored in a climate controlled building, but rather, being blasted down the quarter mile in record times? The Maryland native knows his classic Chevy and can spot a phony from a mile away, just ask Barrett-Jackson. Despite appreciating the car's history and value, he still wants to have fun, setting records while jamming those gears in the mandatory 4-speed combination that the Z/28 Camaro package was produced. Fully restored back to its original form and equipped with dealer invoice on the window, this car is quite the attention grabber at any track it shows up to.

Grocery getters turned race cars, just another reason to love class racing! In Duane Hoven's case, it is a Ford Maverick that he's owned since the age of 14, which became a bracket car and now a Super Stock car. The Ford Maverick never came with a 4-barrel carburetor so Duane utilizes a self-built screaming 302ci motor out of a 1968 Mercury Cougar, putting the car in GT/PA and pleasing the crowd with high flying, bumper dragging wheelies.
