GREAT Deal On 572 COPO

The new 572 COPO is just going to be a Index killer.
The crate motor is advertised at 720 Hp. with a smaller cam and a carburetor.
The 376 COPO is rated at 425 HP per NHRA Engine Specifications. Classification guide HP 415
The 427 COPO is rated at 470 HP per NHRA Engine Specifications.
The 572 COPO is rated at 500 HP per NHRA Engine Specifications.

Since I have my shoes of I will be able to do some simple math.

427-376 = 51 cu. in.
470-425 = 45 HP 470-415= 55 HP

45 HP/51 cu. in. = .882 HP per cu. in. . 55 HP/51 cu. in. = 1.078 HP per cu.in.

572-427 = 145 cu. in.
500-470 = 30 HP

30 HP /145 cu. in. = .207 HP per cu. in.

To me that is one heck of a deal, but is that fair to the rest of us?

GM thinks the 572 makes 1.25 HP per cu.in. How could NHRA assign such a low number to such a powerful engine?
I'm glad that the new COPO is here, but so disappointed at the HP rating.

I'm always surprised how much information I learn when I do a little home work, ie the 572 COPO is only 35 lbs heaver than a 302, 376, or 427 COPO's and it is 70 lbs lighter than the 350 blower COPO. And we wonder how the shipping weights get askew.

So if anyone has hopes of being number qualifier at this years US Nationals, get a 572 COPO or cross your fingers and hope the parachute deploys every qualifying run, because at .874 HP per cu.in. it an't going to happen!

Larry no different than the Fords And Mopars that started the stock eliminator evolution
Of BOGUS HP ratings
As I recall a new Denali has a higher HP rating on the valve cover that NHRA HP rated it for racing
Go figure

You are WAY too smart to be posting something this dumb.....

I wondered how long it would take Darren to respond lol. I am not sure that combo is near as fast as Larry is making it sound. As I have seen one run at a mineshaft race and honestly not near as impressive as those calculations make it sound. Not saying it doesn't have some potential but.....

And the 90mm throttle body would be over 1100 cfm

Steve Foley is driving the first delivered 572 COPO at the Baby Gators and Gators.

I had the pleasure of racing him in class on Thursday. I red lighted and then lifted to his full run.

He ran 9.32 on what I think is a 9.70 index. The correction was 1.01 IRRC correctly.

They worked to get it to run that number. It's going to take a little more to make it a killer combination.

Thanks Robin. I watched a video on Friday of Dennis Collins getting 572 COPO VIN #1, wasn't sure when that was filmed. It showed several others with the same grey with orange "572" paint scheme being made.

Will they ever get it to run like a built blown 350 that's almost dominating FSS?

Oh, I see now they are restricted to FS classes. I was looking at Classracer info and the “classify the combo” link took me to a page that list it in aa/s.

Wow!!!

I'm running in FS/C with the 6.2 this weekend. They still had me in FS/E from the last time I ran with them.

Is the 6.2 a natural class or no?

It's the COPO direct injected 6.2.

What is the difference between a COPO 6.2 & natural class 6.2?

The 6.2 (376) in the 2010-2015 Camaro is the production LS3 combination.

The COPO 6.2 is LT based (2016+). It uses the production block, crank, and heads. It has a bigger cam, more compression, ported heads, and a Holley Hi Ram intake. The 2016-2020 is direct injected. The 2022 is port injected.

What is the difference in fuel pressure?

The LS3 is about 65 PSI at the injector.

The DI is 100 PSI to the mechanical pump and around 3,000 PSI at the injector.

Wish I could afford one Darren. I do love my 69 Camaro but I’m starting to really like the new GM Racing platform.

Let the deflection continue. :)

Not at all.
I’m sure Mopar and Ford have new toys coming out also.
It’s not just GM offering more platforms.

Barry sell the 69 for $60,000 and then buy the new car for over $100,000 is the way it works out lol

You guys are both close. And it depends on what your tuner does. The commanded rail pressure should be run at 180 BAR based on my experience. Several tune ups I have seen a commanded WOT rail pressure set at 200 BAR. The issue is that these High Pressure pumps are piston type and driven by a lobe on the rear of the cam.

As an OEM deal they were never expected to turn 7800+ RPM. they tend to want to float above that RPM. The control valve has a hard time controlling rail pressure. There is a high pressure safety that goes into limp mode somewhere near 220 BAR.

If set at 180 BAR it doesn't hit the High Pressure safety. If set at 200 it can and has.

The more pressure that we applied to the feed pump (tank) the less issue with high pressure pump float. We ran 110 PSI to the back of the Rail pump. It really likes about 140 but most regulators are not built to run that high. Screw Pump in tank worked well.

Robin
