Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Hey guys getting a late start here as I just drove up this morning and as always it's been a mad scramble. Super Street has been called for what is supposed to be the first of three runs today. It's hot and muggy already with the DA at 3000 already and will get worse.
Not very many cars here so there's still plenty of good parking left for any late arrivers. I'll have sheets later as they become available and as time allows I imagine with the low car count things will move rather quickly. |

Q2 for Stock
https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...720&fit=bounds I believe we have one more Stocker just come in. It's hot but at least it a little windy to keep us from combusting. |
Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Thank you Cooter as live timing is not working.
Pretty good turn out with gas prices and D1 in Cecil this weekend also. |

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
We are done for today early so lots of time for some BSing to take place. There were decent car counts in Stock and SS but the rest of the classes seemed pretty low to me. Everything went pretty smoothly today but there were some Super Stock cars that were having some traction issues.
I was not there to witness it but some of the SS guys went to the starting line to complain about track prep and I'm told by numerous people that the starter got pretty upset and told them if they didn't like it to go somewhere else. |
Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Cooter what up dawg.
As for track prep somebody posted on Facebook they were up at 2:30 this morning scraping the track. I thought the car count was pretty decent with D1 and D3 having races, The Heat, and the fuel prices. I would like for this race to go back to October but it was nice being done early yesterday |
Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Chip after looking at all the sheets last night I agree the car count is pretty decent considering the other races on top of this one. I guess I had got accustomed to this place being packed in October with everyone trying to get those last few points in.
This morning the air feels much more comfortable outside than yesterday but I haven't looked at the weather station as of yet. I know the Jr's start off with their TTs at 9 and round 1 will follow. As for me I'll be scratching my head this morning trying to figure out what to dial I don't have any data with this motor since swapping the heads and changing the transmission so I better get my left foot stretched out before I run Foley first round. It should be an interesting race! |

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Semis of Stock will be Bogan vs Foley and Strickland vs Jeff Longhany
|
Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
SS semis will be Corey Taylor vs Joe Tysinger and Cody Phillips on the bye
We have storms closing in fast I'd be surprised if we're able to finish. |
Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Started having some bad wind gusts and even though it hasn't started raining yet the starter has shut it down for today. Good call with rain and lightning expected in the next 15 or 20 minutes the semis will be finished up tomorrow morning.

Here are a few from Friday qualifying. Will have more later, have to edit and resize. Sorry the weather got y'all today. The car count for me was good.

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Thanks for the pictures Butch it's much appreciated. As I'm typing this they are prepping the track in anticipation of the semis in Stock and SS from yesterday. The plan is to finish these guys up and go into the National Open race afterwards.

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Poor track prep at the “ROCK” and just who was surprised?
That’s why that place is crossed off our list. We went some other place. Consumers want value for the money spent and all consumers have elephant’s memory! |

Not that I am a racer by any stretch, but I take a lot of pictures and I did notice there wasn't as much grip, hence not many high wheelies. But with that said I'm going ahead and post a bunch from Friday. I apologize as I will probably duplicate some, but I took three rounds of qualifying and its a process to only have one of each car. Sorry if I didn't get one of each. First post of many. The AMX didn't run Friday.

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
I did read somewhere that the timing system and track will all be replaced. New Concrete for the first 700 feet and paved all the way the rest of the track. They are using some of the cash that was funneled in from the grants that NC gave to the motorsport's programs over the winter.

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Well we made to the semis again today before the skies opened up. In Stock it was Greg Rowe on the bye and Jack Zimmerman vs Rich Davis in the other semi. I'm not positive who was left in SS so with the chance of being wrong I'll just let someone else post that. I believe the plan is to finish those left at the Galot race later in the year so that's a wrap on Rockingham peace out.

Re: Live from the Rock LODRS 2-4
Honestly guys I didn't have a problem and I would say there was not a problem for 95 percent of the racers. I'm not saying it was great and I by no means have a high horsepower car. I saw a few times when there would be 2 or 3 in a row that were having an issue and I think they were trying to stay on top of it. The track staff worked on it in the very early hours of Sunday morning and I didn't see any issues Sunday. That being said if you have one racer like Joey Warren who couldn't hardly get his SS car down the track Friday that's a problem in my book. I'm sure he felt like he wasted his money this weekend and I know some people will say well it's a small tire car. But the same car doesn't have a problem anywhere else. I just hate to see anyone have a bad experience.
There's other issues at the facility that need attention like the pits. The pit roads are horrible if you watch someone try to drive a dragster around the place avoiding the potholes so they don't rip the nose cone off of it. The bathrooms look the same as they did when I first took a leak in there in the 90's. Maybe I'm spoiled by places like Zmax and Galot but I don't think it would hurt if he spent a little money on the place. The whole experience for me starts with the racing surface but there much more to it than just that. My 2 cents. |
