Any valve job????
This may be an incredibly stupid question, for which I have a lot of expertise................but does this mean that we no longer have to use the 45 degree seat angle?

Re: Any valve job????
That is the way I read it.....anything goes.
Margin rules and all. This is nearly the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Kinda turns those virgin cylinder heads we've been hoarding for 20+ years into scrap metal, huh? |

Re: Any valve job????
I may be wrong, but isn't this how the out of control SS heads started that drove many out of the class?

Re: Any valve job????
The good news is; all those heads you thought were junk, are now good again. My castings were never worth anything to begin with.

Re: Any valve job????
2008 rule book came today. ... Altho the rule now states any valve job is acceptable, further reading shows that the stock valve seat angle must be retained. ........The old example picture of an acceptable valve job is gone from the book. .....The .250" bottom cut depth is measured from below the seat angle instead of the top, as the old diagram specified. .........Still gives a lot of room for a "liberal interpetation" of the rule ....Tom

Re: Any valve job????
Hey Tom! Get to work on those AMC heads! I want to see some 10 second E.T.'s from that AMX. Love those Kelvenators!

Re: Any valve job????
John, Now that I finished Jack's GTO, I can finally work on the AMX. ........ I was actually in the 10.80's quite a few times this year, but the runs are taking their toll on the stock AMC rear. .... The only axles available are stock spline, and I've twisted them up pretty badly this year. ....... Looks like an 8 3/4 or a Dana has to go in before anything else............... Tom

Re: Any valve job????
WOW! How About the first AMC Stocker in the 9's?

Re: Any valve job????
tom:you went 10.80 on a amc 20 ,man ,the model 20 blew up two times of coarse it was a stick car,the model 20 is an afficaint rear dana 60 is strong but heavy, 8 3/4 should be about the same and i now alot of guys make it work in high horse power situations , gmonde

Re: Any valve job????
Unfortunately the 69 factory Hurst AMX has a factor of 7.49# , Just enough to keep it out of AA/S. Unless you can adjust down 1 class with it. .................... Of course you would have to find someone at the New Chrysler Corp. who would push it thru to NHRA, since it was only a 50 unit car! .... I dont know if a car that is an accepted 50 unit combo in Super Stock is automaticaly accepted in Stock. ...... Tom

Re: Any valve job????
I believe that if you really look at the specs on that engine(1969 390/340 AMC) , it will pretty much be a no-go for AA/S anyway (at 407 hp).

Re: Any valve job????
You must use the 45 degree seat angle.

Re: Any valve job????
Dwight, I'd think the Crane fully ported heads would be another stumbling block, Altho they are pretty tame compared to what it would be up against. ....Just an outloud daydream. ........Tom
