Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Well after spending most of the day repairing some issues on the car I made the 3 1/2 hour trip down to New York.
supposed to be a fairly nice week with a little rain coming Thursday. yes I am staying here hanging out and trying to relax a little bit before our next battle i have to thank the track owner Howie for allowing the racers to come from Epping and park or stay if they wish, and Mike Fitts for putting us where we belong, you guys really went through the extra effort. looks like there was quite a few cars and people that took them up on the offer. I will spend some of the day tomorrow working on my car again and running around picking up some food and what not for the week.i will try to post some pictures, maybe I will have some time to get a few more pictures of this weeks adventure. again, if there’s anything you guys want to see or have any questions please let me know sometimes I think I just ramble on about myself, help me out!!! |

OK guys it’s Tuesday woke up to nice sunny skies weather supposed to get up to 76 today believe I’ll ride the scooter around a bit pick up some groceries and what not. I do have a few issues I have to fix on the car,
Let’s backtrack a little and discuss what goes on during one of these trips. okay so most people know you go a lot of rounds but what happens in between the races, just last week I had ordered a new converter and put it in. changed transmission fluid, the transmission only has a few passes and the valve body is a new hipster with a brand new solenoid so I noticed in one round of eliminations the car rolled into the beams a hair, now just had to be me pushing on the gas before I set the break or something like that so I didn’t pay that much attention, in the finals the car rolled about 3 inches, I did come up red but came back and thought that was unusual so I set the break and the car rolled again, put it in reverse, set the brake and it seem like it hung up! what is going on here? so I put the car in the trailer, crawl underneath and noticed that the solenoid is sticking when being manually pushed in or out . I was going to take the transmission out because I didn’t want to risk it being the rod inside the valve body. I took the solenoid off anyway and noticed it was just the solenoid getting hung up, that little roll pin was hanging up on the housing of the solenoid just enough to make it stick or release slow. Had a new solenoid on the other spare transmission so I replaced that. So I think I have that fixed. onto the next issue, I noticed I had some brake fluid leaking on the rear wheels, off comes the wheels. I take apart the caliper, replace the O-ring, noticed that the piston has a slight groove in it. put it all back together, seems like it’s not leaking now but I did notice my brakes felt like hitting a brick and still not stopping very well, so online order $500 in parts, I will take the pads back off and sand them today, hopefully I have just glazed them. I have stuff coming to the house for when I get back. I still may change that transmission because it seem like it had a lot of fine metallic in it, not sure if the brake sticking might have done something internally. I will check that today. I will adjust the band and see if it’s worth running that transmission here. sure is a lot easier to change stuff at home on the lift then on the ground in the dirt. I have this car on my lift probably every other week checking everything over, it gets a lot of runs but I built the car over 25 years ago and somethings are still original.. My point to this is if you have any issues take the time to look everything over, you may just find it in time to win the next round! |

Thanks to my buddy Gerald Pierce who has a shop here in Albany. He hooked me up with some transyned and filter to change the fluid in my Allison. I am going to hit that hard now so thanks again buddy!

Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Yea, that Gerald is a real nice guy until you stage next to him. Then he will rip your eyes out of your head with a .01 light and dead on with a .003. LOL
Tell him I said hello. If you get bored, my trailer is in the back field. Change the oil and go over the valves for me please. Heading up Thursday morning so if you need anything give me shout. |

Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Where is the beer??
|
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
I drank it all while working on your car, if I was you I would look the valves over before I made a pass, Oil should be OK though it does take 3 quarts right??
|
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
I usually run two quarts but three will be ok thanks. LOL
|
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Drew, just watch out for the tow hook that Keith installed to the back of the car since he adjusted the valves also.....lol
|
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Rob,
Thanks for the advise. Obviously Keith has many tricks up his sleeve. I'll be sure to check that one out. LOL |

Good afternoon guys and gals, after a long night of rain it has dried up pretty well.
they are supposed to have a street night tonight so I will have something to do, anyway I worked on the car again today checked my brakes, was having an issue there well I found out what it was, the edges of the pads were touching and the pads were completely worn I just put these on there before Cecil county, that’s only three weeks ago!!!!!!! Also put new rotors on at the same time. I do this every season. what the heck happened? they are the same part number pads I use and can get an entire season out of. I think I may have gotten some Chinese junk mixed in there. All four pads looked like this |
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Wow, that's ugly. Where did the rotors come from? Probably have to replace them also after this weekend.
|
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
The rotors are wilwood also, and I replaced them at the exact same time
this is only three weeks ago!!!! I still can’t believe the same part number pads wore out in three weeks, has to be something wrong with the material. Thought maybe the calipers were locking up but no such luck, they turn free. the rotors look like normal ware. Oh well I put last year‘s spares on and they are working just fine when I get home I will be ordering hawk pads instead and hope for a better result |

They are running their street cars tonight
anybody sitting on the fence with the weather issues better come on out, it’s looking better all the time |
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style
Yeah, something got changed in the mix. Pads just don't do that unless like you said, there's a caliper issue. But, both sides aren't going to have caliper issues at the same time. Master hanging up a bit possibly? Or just a crappy run of brake pads? I'd certainly give Wilwood a holler and see what they have to say.

I bought them as spares for my dragster.....sold the car I had M-W brakes and would have to look at the part number for the pads Not sure if they fit a Wilwood caliper/rotor but if they do maybe you can save some $ buying what I have..... |
Re: Live from Lebanon Valley LODRS .90s style

Good morning everyone. well we had a lot of rain last night into the early morning. quite a bit of water lying around but forecast for today is partly cloudy and highs in the upper 60s I’m thinking they may be able to get the test and tune in. rest of the weekend is looking pretty decent with just a chance of showers late day Sunday, so we will see.
