"Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals

Hey everyone, we are in stacking area... we are supposed to start parking tomorrow at 8am. It looks like 60 rigs are here, but more are pulling in as I type. The weather for this weeks race looks okay. Friday there is a chance of thunderstorms in the morning, but much nicer temps. It was 95 today and tomorrow will be the same. The weekend looks great, sunny with temps in the mid to upper 70's.
I'll be back tomorrow with photos from the pits. |

Good morning all, hot and humid today... and we could get some thunderstorms rolling through. Parking went well, the stacking area is empty. They started parking around 7:30, and by 10 we were done... hats off to the parking crew.
We don't start to 11am tomorrow, according to the schedule. If the weather holds up we ae supposed to get 3 shots down the track. First round is scheduled for Saturday morning, start with Stock. Not many cars out, but I did find a few... |

Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Good morning! We rolled in last night around 8 and are stacked in the holding area by the round track. I got up this morning early thinking they would start pulling us in around 8 but nope not happening. I've been told they may start around 9:30. Are you effing kidding me? I guess they wanted to make sure we had the normal stress of trying to get in and parked and everything put out in preparation for Q1 in a short period of time!
Nice move pushing Q1 back to 11 also it's much hotter in the middle of the day and alot better chance of a thunderstorm popping up and wiping out qualifying for sportsman. For Christ sake why do we keep doing this crap? |

Good morning guys... its going to be another hot day. Start time is a 11am as James mentioned, not sure why 11, but oh well. I'm past the point of understanding why. We are supposed to get 3 hits today, but there is a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
Current weather numbers from my weather station... Temp 86 Humid 60% Bar 28.52 DA 4450 Water Grains 120 Vapor Pressure .777 Wind tail 5mph A few more shots from the pits, be back later with more shots from the starting line. |

Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Hey guys, its been awhile since I have raced in these conditions. Here are my weather numbers from my second run. The first run, my tires did not like the track and the track did not like my tires... but we made friends on the second run.
Temp 94 Humid 53% Bar 28.47 DA 5115 Water Grains 135 Vapor Pressure .868 Wind tail cross 5mph I'll be back later with photos from SS, I hope to get Stock photos as I am sitting out the 3rd qualifier. We may get hit with a few thunderstorms soon... its a hit or miss deal in this area. |
Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Thunderstorms rolling through... lots of wind heavy rain now, but it should go through fast... I will update later. Factory Stock Showdown cars made their first qualifier, but it was ugly, half the field spun. Stock got their 3rd hit, but some did not make the run...

Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Thunderstorms are over, and the temperature dropped from 90 to 70. I'm pretty sure the sportsman are done for today. They are drying the track now getting ready for the pros to run. Sorry for the lack of photos... not sure how I did it, but I deleted all the photos I had from todays qualifying in Stock and Super Stock, along with the Factory Showdown cars. I hope to get more tomorrow.... sorry folks.

Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Good morning everyone today is a new day for me. After waking up on the wrong side of the bed yesterday and NHRA doing everything within their power to piss me off and the thunderstorm that came through with a sudden wind gust that snatched the awning off my new toter, today is going to be better day. It's race day!
What a difference it is this morning, cooler and very little humidity and I got goose bumps on my morning ride around the pits. Doesn't feel much like June at all. Stock is out first this morning at 9:30 |
Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Good morning everyone, what a difference in the weather for today. My current numbers are below. Dialing in your Stocker will be tricky. The other classes will sure benefit from Stock's first round. 9:30 is our start time, with Stock out first. Baring any issues with my first round, I will be sure to get photos of Super Stock's first round. Again sorry for the lack of photos, just brain fade on my part yesterday.
Temp 70 Humid 84% Bar 28.44 DA 3350 Water grains 97 Vapor pressure .632 Wind none at this time. |

Bristol is gong great, we are done with 4 rounds of Stock and Super Stock and 1 round of the Factory Showdown cars. The Showdown cars had a rough time getting down the track in qualifying and 1st round.
Photos from round one in Super Stock.... I will have more in a bit. |

Good morning folks, another great weather day for Bristol... but I left yesterday. Anyway, I had a good time as always even though I went out first round. My next race wont be until the D1 points race at Numidia and then off to Columbus for the Jegs Sportnationals.
A quick take, and a little self serving as you can see its a 2008 Cobra Jet, I don't get to see to many of the 08' Cobra Jets. The photos don't do it justice. A father and son team, Kevin and Brandon Daugherty race their 08' Cobra Jet in Super Stock. Brandon, the son is the driver and he also painter. Look for more quick takes on Stock and Super Stock cars from my future "Live Froms". |
Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Thanks for all the great photos. Hoping you don't have much time for pics at the next two races because you're too busy winning rounds. You're due.
|
Re: "Live From" NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
Ken, great that you take the time to take such good pictures. Really glad NHRA restored your credentials. Saw that tough red bulb yesterday morning, the car obviously liked the cool Bristol air, 160 MPH on nine inch tires still gets my attention. Bristol has always been a special place, wish I could have made it myself. Hopefully will see you at Numidia.
