"Live" from the Classracer Nationals

Hey folks I'm not officially there yet but we left earlier heading north! We drove part the way and will finish the trip in the morning. This year we decided to make a little vacation out of the event so after the race we are carrying the kids to Hershey Park for a few days.
The weather looks fantastic but a little hot but no precipitation in the forecast. Ken says there are already people rolling in and I can hardly wait till we get there. I'll be back tomorrow with more live reports as I know Ken will have little time to spare this weekend I plan to step up my coverage.

Hey James, If you want a great amusement park, you are about 5 miles from one at Numidia. It's Knoebels. Google it up. Free admission and pay as you go. My Daughter had her family up there last year I think, totally better experience than Hershey! Bill Taylor B/S 1005 w/Yuenglings.

Knoebels is a great place as well as a museum with lots of antique displays and machinery, great food, live music and an awesome pool along with water rides, I live a few miles away and have been there numerous times and have never seen it all. They have campgrounds everywhere within and surrounding the area.

Re: "Live" from the Classracer Nationals

Good Luck to everyone going up to Numidia this weekend, hope to see a good turnout of racers support Ken & Tim. A lot of people asked for different events for big $$$ and Ken & Tim have provided a lot of different options to collect some cash. I just hope people support the independent type events because if they fade away nobody should complain.

Yes, Knoebels is an awesome place, not as many roller coasters if your one of those people but, some great ones with Twister, Phoenix & the new upside down one. The kids will love it if you go and I think it's 100% better than HP. You could also take them on tour...Knoebels, Dorney Park and HP....kids will be sooo tired they won't ask you "are we home yet" next week....lol

Last minute but does anyone have a car I can drive? I hurt mine at Columbus and trying to get it fixed in time for Atco. Stocker isn't ready and the one I usually drive isn't available. I'll be there regardless doing interviews. Thanks.

Hi guys we're "almost" there! We've made a few stops along the way for various reasons and just taking our time. I can't tell you how nice it has been not to be in a rush.
This is the first time in about 5 years that I've taken a week or so away from work, my wife tells me the millennials call this a mental health wellness vacation but I like it.
Anyway we should be there by 3 and after seeing some folks and visiting I'll get some pictures to post hopefully.

Re: "Live" from the Classracer Nationals

Also not sure if Ken posted it but, that area has some great food! So if you have a truck to get out I'd highly recommend some of these places I have found over the years, only issue is a lot of places close really early....like 6pm every night.

Big Dans BBQ - Attached to a general Store, also homemade beer inside, really good BBQ and if you get some racers together, he will throw a discount in and deliver to the track. www.bigdansbbq.com

Ponduce Farms - Really good subs and market for other things https://www.ponducefarms.com/

Coal Dock Ice Cream - If you come in through Catiwissa, right before the giant hill on 42, really good ice cream parlor - http://coaldock.com/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral

So if you go this weekend or next time you are there, some good places to grab a bite, the Pizza place right outside the track is also really good...Think it's called Numidia Pizza and Subs

Re: "Live" from the Classracer Nationals

Good morning folks it's a beautiful morning here at Numidia and since the test and tune got rained out last night everyone is getting a free hit at the track this morning.
After that there will be 2 qualifying runs and then into the first race. Just to be brutally honest the car count is not very good and for the life of me I don't understand it. There were plenty of cars here two weeks ago and I don't understand why people wouldn't double up the events. When Ken started this 3 years ago during the pandemic many people didn't have a place to race.
But it is what it is and we'll make the best of it and I'm sure that the ones who showed up will have a great experience. I haven't heard anything pertaining to the purse here yet but I don't think there's anyone here that wants to see Kenny lose money so hopefully he will do something different. More later

Re: "Live" from the Classracer Nationals

Just to add to your comments James.
You had a double race at Numidia than the following weekend was
the SportsNationals and now this race.
Low car counts can be because of 3 weekends in a row, gas prices &
maybe the high temperatures at Numidia for this weekend.

Good luck to all racers !!!

I feel badly about not attending but there have been several reasons for not getting out this year. First, parts availability has been terrible. I've had to wait months for pistons, valves, rings, etc. Second, my motivation has suffered because of other priorities and the current state of affairs. I know others who wanted to go but are plagued with similar issues.

I was there last year and had a ball. Ken put so much into providing a phenomenal racing experience, and it showed. Come hell or high water, I'll be there next year with hopefully two cars. I only hope that he can continue hosting this event because it is special and a really great time.

Re: "Live" from the Classracer Nationals

Hey guys don't get me wrong I'm not bashing anyone for not attending I know everyone has their own set of circumstances and let's face it these are tough times for many with the inflation I was just a bit surprised that's all. Anyway we're going to make the best of it and go on I just hate it for Ken and Tim I know how much effort they put into this.
We e just made our first qualifying pass and the track is really good for as hot as it is my numbers were nearly identical to the test pass this morning.
The purse structure has been adjusted a little with Stock running down to 2 cars then there should be 1 SS left and this will be the semifinals. Best reaction time of the 3 cars will get the bye. It's now 6k to win and everything else stays the same. For the circumstances I think this is fair and I've not heard a complaint from anyone.

We miss you Bob and hope Ms Penny is doing well after the surgery.
Butch I'm not sure when they're going to have sheets but I'll find out and have some when available.
Stock just finished final qualifying run and SS is in the lanes so we'll be ready for 1st round shortly.
Side note is I finally got to meet Superfan 1 Mr Bill Seabrooks after all these years and he is taking pictures and hopefully will post some later. I've taken a few but it's moving rather quickly so maybe I can post later.

Hopefully Bill will be on the track for starting line shots. I’m pretty sure Ken would allow it.

I didn't think you were bashing at all. What you said needed to be said. I only responded because it was on my mind and has been for while. I hate the situation.

I really wanted to let Ken and Tim know that the event is awesome and am truly sorry for not attending. It would be an incredible shame if the event didn't continue for years to come due to poor car count.

Plus, I got my car painted so it no longer looks like I raced it in a demolition derby!

As it so happens I just ran into the corner of the building with mine so I'm in need of some off-season body work! Just called first round here we go for 2st round.

First of all, Kenny didn't do anything wrong. He has a great program.

A couple of friends were there for the Div. race. They then went out to Columbus for the supposed double Div. race there. Then they had to get back to get ready for Epping and Indy. Fact is , there are just too many NHRA races in the Summer months on the East Coast.

Going out on a limb here ,but I'd say that about 90% of S/SS racers do it for Wallys and for the ego. Most can afford to do it, so big pay independent races are a low priority. They don't do it for the money.
As John Prine would say, " That's the way that the world goes 'round "...

My opinion is that the racers give back (support) to someone (YO' KEN) that has provided so much to them.

I would have been there myself but health issues withe my wife starting chemo yesterday and I tested positive for covid on top of that.
It's a great race where the racers are celebrated with various prizes as well as excellent payouts! Stay the course, timing wise Covid and then fuel price hikes really altered a lot of peoples schedules

I didn't see where anyone was asked to explain himself. I offered an explanation since Ken works his backside off to give class racers a place to race and feel valued.

Everyone seems to complain ad infinitum about NHRA's treatment of class racers and the lack of payout. Ken did something about it, and has for several years. What's his reward? Look at the car count today. Beside Ken and other's commitment, what about the sponsors?

I gave my explanation upon free will. My only thought was about how much time and effort he continues to put into providing a fun, competitive event, and I didn't show up. It was the least I could do.

SS ran down to 1 car left and there were 2 Stockers left. They were then combined with the lone Super Stock losing in the semi against Bubba that's why there was 2 Stockers in the lone final.
