D6 at Mission
Any insights on why the race is so lightly attended? No live timing but based on scanning YouTube broadcast it looked like less than a dozen Stockers and certainly less for Super Stock. Loved to run that track years ago (they even had a heck of a Hemi Challenge ~20 years ago) but it appeared some shoddy track prep made for a late start and they still had time to run a lot of special classes plus super class shootouts. Perhaps the immunization requirements to enter Canada held folks back or fuel prices or ? So many great racers in D6, would hate to see them have to travel even further to compete for championships.

Re: D6 at Mission
There is a northwest classracer association race this weekend at yakima also. Nhra rescheduled the mission race on top of it, bad mistake. To see Q sheet and ladder for yesterday race they are on this site under the association section. This race is also a double header and pays $2000 to win. Gary Gandee won yesterday

Re: D6 at Mission
Unfortunately it got rescheduled to the September date that conflicted with the NWCR event in Yakima which paids out more money and no HP penalties.
Sorensen went 1.38 under at G weight at Yakima. Thats 10.62 In a 255 /280 HP 69 Combo!!! Steve Teeter Stk/SS 620 |
Re: D6 at Mission
Perhaps the association races do have some appeal beyond the Wally. Pulling over Snoqualmie Pass to race in the dust bowl would cause me pause but money talks. Think Paul Wong was doing some announcing at Mission perhaps he’ll chime in as well.

Re: D6 at Mission
Ok, I give up. Who won at Mission? If the divisions insist on using FB exclusively to share info then they should use it.

Re: D6 at Mission
No live timing, nothing on DRC. I give up also. Even the coverage on you tube is not complete. I guess they do not want us to know what happened up there.

Re: D6 at Mission
UPDATE on Mission - - - Rumor has it that the NHRA official trailer was NOT at Mission. Not sure of the reason, just what I heard.
That is probably why nothing on live timing or DRC. |

Here is the report from Mission;
13 stockers, 9 super stockers....very light also in other LODRS classes. The border is still an issue due to VAX requirements. No NHRA trailer, but a couple representatives. Needed way more IMO. Bruce Flodin and I had a heads up 1st round and they were checking for dial ins..... On top of the LODRS program, they ran just about every bracket class they could come up with and we also dealt with smoky skies and rain (what's a divisional at Mission without rain) before Sunday eliminations. I have attached the final results. Cheers Derrick Johnstone Q/SA 6449 '66 Impala |
Re: D6 at Mission
Thanks for the info Derrick. Who won stock and s/s?? Didn't see that on your sheets.

Re: D6 at Mission
Just to follow up on the last weekend, this was an absolute cluster as far as NHRA rescheduling Mission for this weekend. Between the NW class racer dbl header and the Bremerton race already having the the 10 & 11 Sept weekend allocated, what did they think was going to happen? There were even a few racers that went to Earlville. Any time racers have 3 options, no one is going to win and in the end, no one did. I sort of flipped a coin and went to Yakima but I certainly would have gone to both races if they had not conflicted. As far as I am concerned, this is NHRA's fault more than anything. One last thing, my RU at the combo race paid better than winning at a divisional, maybe NHRA should take that into consideration as well. Gande won $4000 for the weekend, seems like he made the best choice.

Re: D6 at Mission
Thanks Brian for the info. When I last looked at the You Tube coverage it didn't show the finals, probably does now. Thanks again for the info and see you soon.
Jim is right. I didn't see a dustbowl either. |

Re: D6 at Mission
The whole weekend was really a cluster. Parking was first come first serve, zero direction. No nhra guys running the starting line, staging lanes or tower. We ended up getting the win in comp. They had it set as a dial in, so we went further under the index but gave Ralph the win since we “broke out” by more, but showing we got there first. Went to the tower to get the check and they said they were only doing payment for bracket classes and didn’t know anything about Lucas payout. It’s almost like the track didn’t want the race. Hopefully things turn around, always loved Mission.

Re: D6 at Mission
Appreciate the reports. Sounds like neither D6 or Mission wanted a divisional race. Woodburn and Mission we’re always my favorite tracks and hate to see either not succeed and make money. My “dust bowl” comment about Yakima was based on multiple visits but all over 15 years ago so probably not fair but know it can get pretty windy over there. Kudos to those making the association a viable option.

Re: D6 at Mission
I have lived in Yakima since 74 and been going to Renegade almost as long. The Goathead problem of years ago is now under control. A LOT of gravel has been put down and asphalt rows now line the pits 4 - 5 rows deep almost to the finish line with room (cleaned up) to run the pits to the end of the track. The wind is more an issue north of here in Ellensburg. Although 1 of the 1st years we had a combo here there was a strong wind that came through and it got dusty. But those are rare.
I have raced at Spokane and Seattle scattered fèw times. What I remember of Spokane was the asphalt starting line. Times change. |

Re: D6 at Mission
I think between Acton Montana (Yellowstone ) and Mission BC (Mission Raceway) they should be seriously be asking NHRA for a refund on the fees to hold these divisionals. I am assuming there are fees to hold these events. They have left the track personnel and the racers to organize themselves. Thank goodness there isn't a tech inspection anymore..the last time I was in Mission a gentleman at tech said "I'm sorry my dear, I don't know what a superstock car requires. I'll just take your word that you have all the required safety equipment.". The owner of Acton's track (and his family) handled the race surface, safety, staging lanes etc. I remember when all the people from D6 office would arrive, take over the facility and help their member track have a successful event. Kinda makes me wonder what direction racing is headed.

Re: D6 at Mission
I will say that the track seemed to be out of step with our NHRA program..track prep was sub par with the a few early runs of super street guys getting loose and shutting off mid track..the track guys re-prepped the surface multiple times to get it safe..unfortunately with the small class car counts the divisional race felt more of a "filler" for their regular brackets. But what was NOT lacking was the appreciation of all my Canadian friends and racers that expressed their appreciation for making the trip up and participating. Missed coming up there the last 3 years..saw lots of good friends again. I'm hoping the low count isn't the new normal for Mission divisional attendance. Hopefully in the future.. border restrictions will relax and more can come. If we don't support NHRA racing it will go away...and the concern of mine and our friends up north that Mission could be one more track on the chopping block.

As Jim said they have normal working jobs. But when it comes to working on the Race Car, their not normal. It's worth the price of admission just to see the car leave the starting line. Steve Teeter Stk/SS 620 |
Re: D6 at Mission
They are without a doubt one the best out there and yes I would pay to see them race.

Re: D6 at Mission
Just checked on DRC. All the numbers are listed. In spite of everything, some very good races up there. Congrats to ALL the winners.

Re: D6 at Mission
I long for the good old days when we'd have all the fastest Hemi SS'ers and all the fastest A/Stockers at Mission.
