Pinks Slug Out

I spoke to Mr. Rich Christensen of "Pinks" at Bradenton Motorsports Park yesterday. I told him of the internet forum concerning the possibilities of lower classed stockers, FWD cars, and other slugs being on Pinks, or as I put it a Pinks Slug Out. I told him about all the slugs that were up in the New Jersey to Canada area and he thought that it would be great. He said to contact his manager named Nate, as he lives up in that area, and that it would be great as he likes that kind of stuff.

That is all the information that I have, so all you slugs up there in the Joisey and Aye area, get ahold of this guy and see what you can do.

I already had my chance at stardom yesterday. See: "there going to put me in the movies" post

Ron Ortiz
U/SA still darn it.

Ron;
Went out to dinner Fri. nite and one of us is a Raceway Park staffer who will handle the entries.I dont think you'll want to hear this. All entries mustbe muffled, no
bullet, chambered mufflers only.Thefinals requires thetwo cars to run round robin, run andget back to starting line fornext run without shutting off engine, nocool down period.I dontknow anyone who wold run a S/SS car under those conditions,I know my car would look like Old Faithful.Looks like a good race for an alcohol bracket car to me.

Arts wright and turbo cars get in under the db numbers .Den break out that practice tree / arm.... Who ' s the fastests slug car & whats the handy cap ? Is it totally heads up (which doesn't work in this case ) or a car leight handy cap .R/SA14.35-W/SA16.95 & AF/S14.15-EF/S17.75 index . I would think you would have a better race if you went with a car leight handy cap race , you guys just need to find out the car leights would be ahead of time and agree to it. If it a handy cap race time to dust off my T-bird . Whats the car count up to who's in ????

This is a great idea. It's actually cool.

That means there is no way people like nate and rich will do it. That might actually be a really good show.

Re: Pinks Slug Out

No Chip your wrong I had a 110% crate motor they way there were designed to be run, I put 432 runs on it then put rings and bearing in it, after another 512 runs the oil pump pickup broke, motor lost oil pressure but nothing hurt as I caught it in time. The motor had cast pistons with 5/64 rings and was 20 over. Oh well, my brother and I drove it in the same day at Piedmonts 20K race 2 years ago, we both double entered and made 27 runs in one day with the car.

Hi Ed. I'm not doing to well right now. I fell on my boat while fishing the other day, and broke two ribs. I couldn't bend down and pick up a $100 bill if I found one. In a lot of pain. Doctors say it will be this way for 4 weeks.
I plan on getting up there sometime this season.

Re: Pinks Slug Out

Floyd
There were only two dragsters. Debbie Doezal the Century 21 dragster (her husband won the 10k) and the Hooters car that Mark Darsow owns. There were two black roadsters. One was owned by Todd Estal and the other is owned by Brian Fritz. I was there helping Todd. Both dragsters are S/C cars and both run high 7's easily off the stop. Mark ran his stop like usual and won the round over Debbie and was dumped by Rich for using a THROTTLE STOP he said! Mark had words with Rich but did not solve anything as Rich told Mark he didnt hear or see Debbie's car do what Marks did at the starting line. His bottom line was he didnt care what Mark had to say! Her stop was used down track on her runs! Idont know if the fact that the Doezals daughter works for Charles Hendrickson(Charles is a member of the show and a good person) at his Dyno shop in Phoenix had anything to do with the win! Since Todd and Brian are friends they split the $1000.00 for the round. I didnt think it was a coincidence that the only cars that werent door cars had to run one another the first round eliminating two of them from the jump!( MY OPINION) The kid from L.A. with the black Mustang got Brian in his roadster second round and Brian had him three cars at a point down track and all of a sudden he just drove around Brian easily! Also the kid in the Stang by his own admission is a professional street racer! Oh well atleast the Stang had a small block Chevy in it! That night Rich was not much into listening to what the racers had to say to him. I heard him tell one racer if he didnt like what he said he didnt have to come back. It was interesting to see the show being filmed and what goes on during the commercials at home....lol I am in no way trying to discourage anyone from trying to make this event. It is not a lock you will get on the show or the chance to run for the bucks. They only take 16 cars. I sent a e-mail to Nate Pritchett who is the guy that gives the thumbs up in the tower after each round a question why they picked cars that ran 12.50 in Tucson. Never heard back from him. Nate is aware of this site and does post sometimes on a site .......www.GODRAGRACING.com We did have a good time and made some new friends and would go back. Please remember there is no guarantee you will get to run for the bucks or get any exposure.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to ALL!!

Re: Pinks Slug Out

Steve and myself have kicked around some ideas of having a race for "slow" stockers. The first idea was a Top/Stock type deal (heads-up on a comon weight break, perhaps 16 or 16.5 pounds). However, that would eliminate many of the DF/S and EF/S, and the T-U-V-W Stockers. The next idea was to do it like Comp. Handicap, off the Index, no breakout, with a possible CIC. Open to all FWD Stockers, and lower-classed (in ET) RWD cars (possibly Q/SA to W/SA). If it were held in Ohio or somewhere around there, you would be able to draw from the majority of the good "slow" Stockers. I could possibly talk to Quaker City about having the race held there, perhaps in conjunction with a regular S/SS Combo.

Any ideas from anyone? Lord knows there are plenty of racers that could participate. Let's hear 'em.

Count me in. Seems like a little bigger radiator a good fan and water pump should take of the heat. Sounds like a fun time and we get to run for real money. What more could you ask?

If you all are able to pull that off, then I'll be your biggest fan from the southwest! Next I'll wish I had the funds to bring my DF/S'er out there to enjoy the fun and meet some new cool racers from the eastern half of our great country! Finally, I'll hope that they'll make such an event out west and stage it somewhere between Denver, Co. (Bandimere Speedway), and Las Vegas, Nv. (LVMS)?

Make sure you announce the air dates down the road ok guys? I don't want to miss that show!!!

I might be interested if the date and location are right. Hopefully it would include Q/SA.

How would they run this whole deal? Handicapped off the index? Spotting car lengths?

Would my FWD Neon Superstocker be allowed to run? I have no clue about the heat but maybe just leaving the water pump on would make it okay.

PS The ribs feel a lot better, I hope to get back to working on the car before Christmas

Re: Pinks Slug Out

Art, you don't know me, but I've been following the successes of you and Steve Polhill thru the years, and I applaud both of your efforts 'oer the while! I'm glad that you're feeling better, and look forward to reading more about you two's (and all of us slower end Stocker racers) efforts in the coming season! I'm honored to have raced in Colorado with the likes of "Randy Hyman" (DF/S), and "The Hawk" Lane Weber (U-V/SA, plus Stan Kopejtka (EF/S), while I was getting my feet wet in stock eliminator racing with my '86 Chevy Cavalier Z24 (now DF/S) car---from the mid-90's forward. Now that I'm living in Az., I get to race with the likes of Angelo Phillips (M/SA), & Mark Yacavone (U/S & V/S).

Since there are so few of us fwd stocker racers nationwide (plus the slower end rwd racers as opposed to the other guys), I feel the need to support and cheer all of our efforts in the stock eliminator category. This "Pinks Slug Out" thing will help out BIG TIME, if it's able to happen? I certainly hope so!!!

Re: Pinks Slug Out

Two weekends that look pretty decent would be July 19-20, and Sept 13-14. As far as where, a location in the Midwest (Ohio in particular) would be a great draw to many of the good "slower" Stockers. I could talk to the people at Quaker City Raceway in Ohio about doing an event, possibly in conjunction with a traditional S/SS combo.

What I had proposed was an event run under Competition Eliminator-style rules. Handicapped off the Indexes, no breakout, CIC at (perhaps) -1.15 under, on a one-to-one ratio.

Eligible classes of cars would be Q-S-W/S; Q/SA-W/SA; AF/S-EF/S; SS/GS; and G/PS-I/PS, cars and trucks that are IHRA and NHRA Stock Eliminator-legal (excluding SS/GS).

Since Pinks had the "briliant" statement to the effect of "12.99 and quicker cars only. If it takes more than 13 seconds to get down the track, we don't want it". Nice. Not all us can afford to, or want to, build an 8-9-10 second car. A lot of us have fun with slower cars.

Any thoughts on any of the above ideas?

Re: Pinks Slug Out

Well, if they don't want any cars slower than 13.0, that will eliminate all of the FWD classes except for A/FS. I don't think there's anyone in B running 12's.

Or was that statement for the "normal" Pinks All-Out shows?

Mike Carr 12-21-2007 01:10 PM

Re: Pinks Slug Out

Rob, that was their statement in the registration on Norwalk's site for the Pink's All-Out. I thought it was a pretty lousy statement to make. I figure if they don't want us, we don't need them....we could do just fine on our own.
