I've been thinking about Steroids

It's not what I'm thinking about, but just that I'm thinking that's amazing me. What could be called Steroid abuse in our sport.
Steroids & Drag Racing.
1. Delay box in non delay classes
2. 2 steps in stockers
3. transbrakes in stockers
4. blocking devices
5. Engines with too may cubic inches
6.Acid ported heads
7.Counting devices
8.Matty box
9.Auto shifters
10. Hopped up fuel
By now you get it. I'm talking about what makes a racer better or makes his race car perform better.
Just like all the guys in Major league sports. Just remember most of theses sports figures were already good performers, but they chose to enhance their performance. This afternoon I woke up in my recliner to a Golf Show where the were talking about what the Golf world was doing about drug abuse.. NOT THEM TOO! What would you add to my small list of Drag race Streoids?

Disclaimer: This is an attempt to add some light humor to the off season.
Thank you Lord, I'm not on steroids, but I am High on the drug called life.

Hydraulic lifters for a stocker that really aren't and cost $800.
Engines that didn't exist, even on paper, 10 years ago that are legal now.
Valve springs in stock at 300 lbs on the seat.
300 hp manifolds on 220 hp engines.

There are a few ways around a fuel check if you know what you are doing.

Fuel check is a joke... If a man cheating on fuel gets caught ...he must be an idiot!!!
There is zero supervision during fuel check...you can give them any fuel you want for testing.

Re: I've been thinking about Steroids

Fuel check to me is of no use anymore. I have had fuel that has passed from the same jug or in the car for over 6 months with no problem. I have had fuel that is purchased one weekend that passes and not pass the following week. This blows the theory that a fuel can go stale and not pass.

Try mixing VP and Sunoco, no good it will not pass. But if I am at a track that only has one brand of fuel, and I am low on fuel, then I have to drain the existing fuel and the lines so that the new fuel will not be contaminated. Seperatly they are ok, whats with that. How about going to a track that only has say one brand grade available, but it is not what you have in the tank, guess what, start draining it, they won't pass together.

Why can't I use pump gas, it is cheaper and it does not have a higher octane rating? Don't forget that I do not have alot of horsepower or compression and therefore do not need a real high octane. But no, I have to use over priced NHRA approved fuel that is available at the track. Or I could buy it by the drum, wait it might go stale.

Fuel check is for the cheating Pros. Sportsman do not need it. The only time that a special fuel might be needed is when there is a heads up run. Other than that there is nothing but handicapped racing going on, why would you need a fuel advantage, just dial a little different.

The part that really gets to me is that you fill your cup with a sample of this over priced liquid to have it checked and then they throw it in a jug to be used later on probably a pit bike.

Fuel check ranks right up there with varying scale weights.

You're absolutely right. Roger Clemens is an outstanding pitcher and Barry Bonds is a powerful batter. Shouldn't they just legalize steroids and other performance enhacing drugs? They can pitch and swing accurately without steroids, so those drugs are not an advantage. At least if they were legalized, then everybody would be on the same playing field. All the other players are just jealous whiners. The fans, the media, and retired players that are b*tching about it don't even play the game!

Some people stretch the rules just to see what they can get away with. Just sort of a side game to the real action.

But in the other major league sports, the ones in which millions of children in the country participate in
(as opposed to drag racing) look up to all these men and women as heroes. They wear their brand of shoes, wear their jersey numbers, or buy their their brand of equipment based on endorsements.

Do we as Americans as a whole want our children to grow up thinking that steroids or other forms of human growth hormones are the way to go?
Will parents look the other way if their teenage son suddenly starts bench pressing 150# more than everyone else if they think it will mean their child will become the star, or may increase their chances of getting a college athletic scholarship?

It all comes down to character

Michael;
I've agreed on alot of your posts but this one is the biggest crock of **** I've read lately.
Bonds,McGwire,Sosa and the rest of the juice heads ned to be banned and any records returnd to their rightful owners (Aaron,Maris, etc)As a kid I saw them and alot of others.I'm sure they had their faults, like late night boozing, which I wouldn't consider an enhancer(hang over,
tiredness)and they excelled anyway. These overpayed under-
achievers couldn't shine thier shoes.
Relating it to cheating in drag racing some cheters SHOULD get the Dirty Dozen treatment, but it's not going to happen with the numbskulls running the show now.
I thought you had more respect for our sport.

Do you really think Michael Beard was being serious? I think you should reread his post. He was making fun of all the Dolts on this site.

Ed,

Michael Beard was being sarcastic. Click on the "quote" in his post and read the very bottom. The last line apparently didn't come through on the actual post but can be read in the quote, in your post, but only before it's posted.

Naw, I did that on purpose. In video games, they refer to that as an 'Easter egg'. I didn't want to make it any more blatantly obvious than I had to, that I was being sarcastic. I hid it as text in a fake hyperlink.... but alas, I was not clever enough for Myron!

How you doin', anyway, Myron? I was digging around on TTI's website today... still considering headers, but need to pay a few bills first.

Re: I've been thinking about Steroids

There are a couple of guys up in Hebron/Newark, OH area who used to run a yellow Pontiac Pro Stocker that was very compe***ive until it blew the hoodscoop off because of an illegal "substance". Their credibility in automotive endeavors has been irreparably damaged by those acts, but they will survive. The aforementioned atheletes that used the performance enhancing drugs (substances) have yet to experience the life-shortening impact consistent with their use. Steroids and other growth hormones were developed to speed-up or enhance the function of innate human healing processes to allow those with various maladies to enjoy a modicum of normality. The "side-effect" of the euphoria is over-taxed organs. I personnaly had a friend so obsessed with winning "Mr. Universe" in bodybuilding compe***ion that molded his body via the use of anabolic steroids, and starving himself, died at the age of 38. The autopsy revealed that his kidneys, pancreas, liver, and heart appeared to be that of a 75 year old man.
There's no such thing as "a free lunch".
