New Q Jet
2 Attachment(s)
Just spotted this new aftermarket Qjet carb being sold on the internet( Amazon ,Ebay etc). Wondered if anyone else has checked it out, and if it is legal for NHRA? I guess if it measures ok for the application. Funny how the ad says it could " flow 750 - 800" . They are being sold under 2 different brand names. Thundermingo, and lvantelope. One ad gives this description of a carb."A carburetor is a rigid mechanical device, which acts as a core function for the motor".Good to know. LOL The ad also says " If you have trouble getting the engine to idle correctly after you install the device, please feel free to call them".Make sure you take a note of the time change in China before doing so though.LOL One site has sold a couple hundred of them, but the reviews are not good.

Re: New Q Jet
They are lighter, as they are all Aluminum. Have not measured one as to Venturi and throttle blade dimensions for being legal for 750 Q Jet replacement. If they measure correctly, I assume they would be considered a legal replace carburator for Stock or Super Stock? Maybe need to get an official response from NHRA.

Re: New Q Jet
I saw one, held it in my hands, they are as light as a feather. I don't recall seeing any copied logos on it. Guy put it on an old truck, it ran.

Re: New Q Jet

I saw it last week myself and thought they will copy anything |
Re: New Q Jet

It’s all about the casting Need Deano or Danny Ashley to check one out |
Re: New Q Jet
I have a original Weber 38/38 on a six cylinder, I bought a Chinese replacement on ebay for less that $90.I have never used it but it's incredible how identical it is, any parts I've tried can swap back and forth. It's crazy how light it is though I literally thought I was recieving a empty box !

Re: New Q Jet
My first concern, one of many, is the legality of these carburetors for NHRA Stock and Super Stock use. The engine blueprint specification sheets only list Rochester and the Edelbrock replacements, which by the way gets a +.015 primary venturi size upgrade over the Rochester. Until NHRA makes an official call on these, I wouldn't recommend any one purchase one with the intent of putting it on a Class car. If they were to be deemed legal, I would be glad to perform an in-depth autopsy on one and post my findings here.

Thanks for offering your help on this matter!

Re: New Q Jet
I have seen and used or tried to use numerous carbs offered for sale at much lower prices than the OEM items
Mostly on Onan and other generators. Some work ok but more often than not they do not work right and or they deteriorate badly once gas is run in them for a while They look perfect in every way usually Money saved ends up being thrown away sometimes and nothing but aggravation.....been there numerous times... |

My guess would be poor quality material, and or a lack of anodizing or other treatment is why they rot with gasoline, and especially if they're exposed to the corrosive effects of gasoline with ethanol in it, that stuff rots everything it touches, regardless of quality. |

I'm with Danny, I think the first thing to do would be to get one and send it to Wesley Roberson to see if he thinks that NHRA would even consider allowing it, I'm guessing with how little marking and documentation is on them, they won't (that's pretty much confirmed). It wouldn't hurt to expose one to some race fuel, they may dissolve, considering what I've seen of the chinese Amazon stuff. Just FYI, folks, after talking to a couple of people, I would waste neither time nor money on the chinese carburetors, it's a dead end. |
