Best transmission fluid?

Just changing fluid in my stocker metric 200. Is there any difference in transmission fluids. What the best/fastest ?

ATI super F. Or Royal purple. Amsoil also makes the list.

I have been running the Amalie Type F with great results. Was $47 a case shipped to your door. Looks the same when drained as it did when put in.

Who did you buy the fluid from?
Thanks

Me too. I found it for 55 a case shipped. And after 80 runs with a 7" converter and a trans brake, no trans cooler, and it looks like new when drained.

So,

I have a Question regarding Type F fluid

I have cases of old Type F in round cans, anyone care to share info if it's still good to use after all these years or what to do with it? Some in basement some in back of garage stacked high, still in original boxes.

Thanx in advance

I bought it direct from Amalie. Setup an account from their website and order.

I will add that the gears, clutches, bearings, etc. are all perfect after running the fluid. Granted we have short intervals with all the gearing we have tried but definitely works!

Re: Best transmission fluid?

Always Type F dino oil here. Valvoline (Carquest) Type FA. The Carquest stuff is gone, replaced by Fram at Advance stores. Reported to be made by Amalie, or was.

I like Amsoil stuff and tried their Multi Vehicle Synthetic Street ATF once. Heat streaks on the clutch plates made me not use it again. They do a Super Shift Synthetic Type F, but I've never tried it. The plain Type F was cost effective, as I serviced my stuff regularly, wasn't making a ton of power, and never saw any fluid related issues.

Some of the trick, secret squirrel stuff is rumored to be repackaged John Deere Hy-Gard hydraulic oil which seems to be the ticket in applications like Pro Mod. I've even heard of people experimenting with shock oil.

Honestly, most of the guys I know in S/SS just go to WalMart and get their Super Tech Type F and service their stuff regularly. Probably as good as anything in a sub-800-900 HP unit with decent parts. And it doesn't break the bank to change it regularly.

Any tranny (transmission, have to specify these days) guys have any better info, that would be helpful.

Re: Best transmission fluid?

I swapped to John Deere on my bracket because converter was way to loose on nitrous. It tightened up 200 rpms on the graph.
The replay tach on stocker showed about 150rpm drop on converter and it has metric 200.

I also use John Deere TY22000.

I have always used Type F no matter the brand.

Re: Best transmission fluid?

The John Deere fluid was recommended to me by Alex Denysenko he said when he ran type f he had to change it every 50 passes and the the John Deere was poured in when trans was freshened up and did have to change it until the next freshen up. So that’s what I went to with good results.

Shake the can first, some additives tend to settle out.

Fram / Carquest or Valvoline Dexron VI full synthetic at Advance Auto works perfect for me. I wounder if some brands come from the same tap with their own name on them.

I have been using it in the Jeep for a couple of years. 315 HP at 3305 lbs. No problems - Never did a back to back but its not slower!

Which trans fluid did you switch from? Just curious where the difference is from and to

Regular shelf bought type F Castrol. I had to much rear gear and tried to tighten up finishline RPM. Changed back to regular type F when I changed rear gears.

I'm surprised to not see a mention of Allison TranSynd in this thread. It seems to be the "gold standard" in the bracket/Super-class world.

Alex had said he ran the John deere fluid for a 150 passes and then pulled trans for inspection.

Wasn’t the John Deer stuff a few hundredths quicker too?

Been to long ago don’t remember the difference in E.T.

I ran it in my C4, Eddie Horensky found no better or worse wear with it than the Amalie Type F. A gallon of Trans Synd cost what a case of Amalie cost so I went with the Amalie and never looked back.

This is what I use in the race car, service truck and the Duramax truck. A friend of mine works on Allison transmissions and says it is a extended interval oil, 200,000 miles. Works for me.

That's pretty much in line with the information I have found. It might not be 'better' than anything else under normal conditions and regular maintenance, but it will not break down under extreme heat and/or for a longer period of time than other fluids.

That's what I recommend for my customers that burn the paint off the torque converter, it does stand up to heat very well as most synthetics will. I've tried Transynd, type F, Dex 3, Dex 6, tractor fluid and see very little difference in performance. I'm now running Dexron ULV, it's a low viscosity fluid for the newer 8 and 10 speed and it does seem to be a little quicker. Less drag?
