Hey guys, a $120.00 set of SBC lifters will not solve any of my problems ….:):)

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
That's each. $1920 for a set of 16. :)
|
Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
Jegs shows they would ship from the manufacture 1/24 "pending manufacturing availability, but as we all know that does not always happen, $119.95 for 16.
With "pro shop" discount $112.75. |

Time to rethink this lifter rule.

I guess I’m lucky in this case. I’ve got a factory roller cam car. But look at what it costs to do this. If your already in it. What’s $2000 more to keep going. Everyone just has to decide for themselves where that line of spending vs worth it is. Financially it’s dumb to just be involved for 99% of us. |
Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
Just received my new set of solid SBC flat tappet lifters in the mail yesterday. With shipping just under $170. Even etched “made in the USA” on each lifter.

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
Rob, who is the 1% that it is financially "Smart" for to be involved? I need
a role model. J.R. |

The ones that are good enough that they can make a living at it. When I crewed on roundy round cars. I made money. Not much but at least I wasn’t spending my money. Don’t get me wrong. I love it. But if we’re honest. We’re all either crazy or dumb. |

DLC coating on the lifter face, thus keeping costs down. We have had so many issues where I work with soft lifters and lifters with no crown. We were able to be a large inventory of the old Delphi lifters when we heard that they were discontined. At one time I think we had close to 8000 lifters but once word got out they sold out. It's kind of sad but I have a few friends that have Rockwell tester and we batch test most of our lifters now. The new Comp lifters fill a demand out there. We have about 25 sets left right now. Supply isn't supposed to be a problem. |

Yes -16 normally means a set of 16. But where ever they have shown the lifter it doesn't say set. He came up with $1920 if the listed price is only for one lifter. Stan |

If this is the case, it kills the argument or agenda for roller cams. On another note, I wonder with a cheap alternative like that, if it would bring the other manufacturers price down to a more competitive level? |

Wow, I stand corrected. That's just a crazy price. Hard to find a set of UNCOATED lifters at that price. Loss leader for them? Trend DLC around $2k? How much for a set of Delphis? |
Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
I'd like to know where the lifters are manufactured, China, Mexico, or USA - I know there's no way they will tell who coats them.

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
Mnmaxwedge, please provide some contact information. I’ll take two sets. Pm me if you want.
Thanks! |

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
So ,my kid tells me not to start any **** on this forum but I just can't resist this one since I am just a dumb former metallurgical researcher who developed metals for the space program so having said that I'm thinking maybe they should offer one free grade point with each set of lifters and a free subscription to MAD magazine and not even consider that the machines that it takes to apply DLC to a piece of metal cost about $250,000 each. It uses a process called PVD or plasma vapor deposition and just a little bit of technical knowledge to run the dang thing so this just seems like somebody's worried about competition in the marketplace, too late welcome to America .And yes this might be tongue in cheek for youse people who actually read mad mag.

Risk a real race engine on this? I doubt it.
Nothing to see here, move along... |

The price is low because they make it up on volume 😄

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
Wow they come up with a lifter that will work at a reasonable price street race whatever (they can still be shimmed if no solid avail) they claim no breakin at 1/10 the price of tool steel lifter and we get complaints or it cant be done !!! Im sure they did testing . For street engines this is a blessing .
Do you know how many machine shops are either not doing flats hyd or solids and are going to roller only because of breakin ? If these do work that just saved the flat tappet and non roller cam business . Comp is not the only one coming out with this , there are others . But I have to say thanks to them for at least trying . Even if they are owned by a investment co. 9 |
Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
It will be interesting to see if they offer other engine options in the future.

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
On Monday 23 I ordered two sets of 812D-16 they arrived today straight form comp on the lifter it self there in no markings as to where they were made nor on the box or in the instructions, now that I have seen them for myself they are going back to Comp
My advice would be if you are selling a engine parts, and you feel the need not to say where it is made then expect it to be sent back |
Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
If anyone is interested, I checked with Comp and the 812D-16 lifters are $119.95 for a full set and they are made in their facility in Bronson MI.

Guess I spoke to soon. At 119. don't think I will put them in anything I own.. I want to know if they made them from scratch or did they assemble them? |

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifter
But are they manufactured there (soup to nuts) AND coated there, or just assembled there? Pretty gray area that kind of needs addressing - the price is just too good - and you know what they say about too good to be true
