Rear housing Question
I'm considering building an F body Mopar for Stock. The rear can be replaced with any corporate housing as I understand, but the new housing has to match the width dimension of the old one exactly, correct?
Thanks! |

Re: Rear housing Question
we have ran 2 F-bodies in stock, both used the 8 3/4 housing with a back brace on it.
As I understand it, you can also run a Dana 60. I believe the 8 3/4 used on the B-body from 1964-1967 is the correct width. |

Re: Rear housing Question
You could even run the 8 1/4 in that if you could find
the needed parts. My 80 Mirada 318 O/SA ran a 8 1/4 forever without breakage! |

when i looked at this combo and the 8.25 rear. the deepest gear was a 4:88 |
Re: Rear housing Question
With the power level and weight you will have I would consider a 8 3/4 Detroit locker. The Locker for the 489 case fits up to 4.56 gears.
Most of the time a Locker will have a spool beat on MPH. 30 spline gives you plenty of choices in Stock or stock re-splined axels That are budget friendly and plenty strong. If you do go all out on axels a 30 spline has a weight advantage. I'm not sure, but you might even find a gun drilled 30 is available. .02 for free |
Re: Rear housing Question
I had thought about the 8-1/4, but then I would be back to starting at 0, I have no parts for one.
This is kinda going to be a "dime rocket" but more likely a "50 cent rocket". Thanks for all the replies. |
