Live from Atco,NJ - Micro Strategies National Open
 

Well it's the first - that's right - the first Micro Strategies National Open Series race to be held with ten more to be raced in Division One and sponsored by Micro Strategies this season.

Today was parking only and the entries were light but picking up tonight .Plenty of pit space available here because of the better use of available acreage .That and alcohol cars won't be here taking up premium spaces .

Tomorrow will be test n tune along with National Record runs all day.

One last thing - a trivia question for you long time Atco racers - the DELTA gas station pictured ( on Jackson Road ) was another brand in the seventies and NHRA events were held there during that time period - can anyone tell me what those events were ???? First one with a correct answer gets a ClassRacer t-shirt from yours truly.

I'll guess, even though I live in Atco I don't know. The first time on Jackson Road was probably 1983 , going to the track from Camden

I pumped gas at a Gulf station starting in 82, so I'll guess Gulf.

I took a ride through the pits tonight. Saw some familiar trailers. It was raining so not much happening. I did hear race car noises earlier in the day (I'm close to the track).

I have a potato phone but I'll try to take pics if I can and update to add to your post.

I was going to say if I remember as a kid it was a Getty…I remember someone telling me of an event that went on there but, I cannot remember what it was.

Good grief -- The trivia question isn't what brand of gas was there - it's what NHRA events took place at that gas station .

Good morning members and guests - this surely is the day we have been waiting all Winter for - sunshine ,blue skies and a great barometer .I'm sure some of the attending drivers and owners see their National Record certificate hanging in their man cave already.

If Wally were here he'd be proud and smiling .......

Well that didn't take long this AM - that gas station was where teardowns for National Record runs and race winners was done .Greg X was the head man in charge and felt right at home there . And if you're wondering yes I received an invitation to that address .

Jack, I'd rather see you give one (T-shirt) to a young kid who might be wandering around the pits. It might give said kid a reason to come back!

OK Billy you win .I rode around and around and couldn't find any young kids ( and when I asked people they thought I was some kind of pervert ) and then I ran into this up and coming young lady ( you'll know who this is ) who thanks you for the free shirt .

Well the rains hit and the test n tune is officially over .That said I'm sad to tell you that not one record was set today which was the first ATI record day here at Atco .Hopefully tomorrow will be better .

I must tell you there were cars that went fast - the most impressive one was by Marc LaBrecque with his SS/GT/TB ---9.53 !!!!

Karen Stalba's Top Alcohol Dragster has been parked on the starting line for at least the last 15 minutes. She was supposed to make a test run before Stock Q2, then the power went out and everything went silent! Likely why the feed went dark. We should be starting Stock Q2 before too long.

Like they would scream years ago here -Sundayyyyyyyyyyyy .In an hour or so we'll get going here at Atco and you couldn't ask for a nicer race day .Juniors will start things off followed by bikes then S/street then Stock and S/S .

Once again the barometer is great and the humidity is dropping - watch for some big numbers .

Today once again it's sunshine with blue skies and warming up .........later.

Noticed a B/S 64 Galaxie on the sheet. Wonder if it's a light weight version or the standard 427/425 version? A single carb 410hp?

That’s mine, it’s the lightweight 2x4 high riser combo. Hurt the engine yesterday. Hopefully be back out soon.
