Low Stock Qualifier At Indy

Any guesses everyone? I'm thinking Paul Wong with the 305 truck combo if that's what he shows up with.

Yup! He's on the list. I hope to be fast but I'm not even in the same zip code as that truck.

Should be fun.

How are they going to technically inspect after class eliminations if 1st round is the next morning?

If they do tear downs, why would you want to be the #1 qualifier to get torn down knowing you have to race the next day.

If I remember correctly there has been a full day between class eliminations and 1st round of the eliminator.

Anyone looking to go fast at Indy used to expect teardown. I hope the schedule allows for more teardown, but it seems non racer accountants run NHRA so it is not likely to be the teardown process of years past

Understood.

I don't see the advantage of being #1 qualifier knowing in advance it will be a full field equating to ZERO bye rounds. Is there any bonus money involved?

While there doesn’t seem to be as many tear downs as in the past some will happen. I think if you don’t go to Indy with the gaskets and tools you need to do a tear down you could be in for a surprise. I would suggest being prepared! Mike McMahan 2543 G/SA

Re: Low Stock Qualifier At Indy

Sometimes a lot of the players know each other and communicate before the race to feel each other out. The last year we did it, the 60th, I got a call from another player. This is two weeks before Indy and they were wondering how fast the truck would go as an automatic. I kept it really close to the chest and revealed that I had a stick in the truck and all the stuff it took to make it work. He immediately knew that the Hp went from 189 Hp automatic to 155 factory Hp with a stick in the truck. We spoke just a little longer and we ended our conversation. Aww the beauty of a transmission change, a 34 Hp reduction in power. What’s not to like. Thirty minutes after we ended our conversation the phone rings, it’s my competition, he’s wanting to know what class I told him V/S his response was the index is .85 softer and I agreed. Let’s do the math 34 Hp reduction, .85 softer index = “ Hey y’all Watch This”.

After the first session in Stock, it looks like a three-way shootout between

Robin Lawrence, FS/G -1.504
Paul Wong, T/SA -1.486
Marty Buth, N/SA -1.480

Session 1 he was just cruising, session 2 showing his stuff...Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door. Paul driving out of everyone's life and right into another zip code. And that is in fast company -1.875 thru Q2 under where I think I saw the top 50 or 51 were -.999 or better under.

He has to be in 7th heaven at the 2023 BIG GO, and sitting atop the Q list (and deciding to pick and build a little slower ride, to go really fast in!) Congrats to the man (and his team), seems that they have worked really hard, and it is paying off huge dividends!

This is just qualifying. I predict the fastest car in qualifying doesn't win.

We will see..........

Daryl, my suggestion of Advantages has nothing to do with class eliminations. It has everything to do with the real race, the Eliminator. Jerry has the most most potential heads up that he can win during the REAL race.

Gotcha.

BTW, who won the D/SA final? Can't find anything online and I don't have NHRA.TV
