U/SA

I'm not a subscriber of Nitro Joe's Drag Racing Stats. Can anyone tell me how many U/SA racers are actively competing.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and reply.

Frank

Waiting on rods and pistons. Doing motor right this time. I left a lot on the table playing it safe with my measurements. I feel olds wagon is a player at 4250lb. Hard way to play. Hey maybe that can be the name of the car.

Jeff, A guy named Sid Tolson in Florida ran you combo in a '87 full size Olds wagon with your same combo in U/SA and was a solid second under car. Have not seen any mention of him or his car since about 2014 or so. You have a good combo for U. Best of luck with your project and stay with it. Would love to hear your progress.

Re: U/SA

U/SA Shootout. heck yeah. It's about time we had another one of them Slug Shootouts.
Paul should bring out his '65, Shaw will bring out something that flies, an Olds, Elsass, Graham, Seaburg, Huestis, Gangee, Freeman, Myers, Fauss-Johnson, maybe a Buick or Capri somewhere, a Billy something, GTX John, and maybe a couple of U/SA retirees.

Should have it at Bradenton, track hooks better and weather is better than Gville, close to the beaches, and, ready for this, good track food.

I haven't raced since 2014. Currently waiting on wheel/tire package. Fresh motor, new interior, new fuel and electrical system, new paint scheme featuring Moss4U sponsor. So close to being ready.

Since moss grows slowly, Moss4U will be the first sponsor for the shootout, giving a free box of Sheet or Mood moss to the winner.

Lets make this happen.

If Paul will get the trusty 65 out I’ll be there wherever it is … but remember since the original fun race NHRA pat c took 25-35 hp off every 302-2bbl and uscteaditional rated cars pretty much cannot compete 30hp=600#

I’ve been out this year due to injuries and home fire but once had maybe the best usa car racing

Heck we could do it at Indy

Getting my *** kicked by a ffford is slightly worse than running the combo bull**** deal

U/SA Shootout at the 5/2024 National Open at Earlville?
Make U/SA the new SS/AH!

Hey Frank I've gotta ask, why is a Max Wedge guy suddenly interested in a U/SA shootout? You got something up your sleeve that you're not telling us about?

U/SA "reminds" me of the way Stock eliminator used to be and IF I were to race again I would build a 273 Mopar.
However that's not going to happen because NHRA sucks for all the wrong reasons and I wouldn't give them one cent of my money.

Probably get Wong back in it too... although I am not sure we want to haha.

I remember the lead-up to the U/SA Shootout as one of the most fun times on here. I don't have a dog in the hunt, but, if you guys can put another one together, I will throw in some tow money.

Re: U/SA

Most seem to think that the 302 Fords would run away with this thing. First it depends on where the race is held. Most of the 302s are way out west, so that might be a factor on which ones would show up.
But I have to tell you that there are a few combos that haven't been built yet, that would give the Fords a run for their money. Right, Billy?
And no..Don't ask..Just hit the books ;-)

GTS340 09-13-2023 12:52 AM

Re: U/SA

The books were very kind to the 302 @ 143 hp. The 1973 Dodge Challenger with a 318 makes U/SA. Still at 169 hp, which didn't sound terrible at first. Hardly has a chance carrying 500 lbs extra. Might have to really work on Paul's 65 Belvedere. We have more up our sleeves.

the other Paul

Re: U/SA

NHRA created this mess with the Ford 302 with the stroke of a pen. They can correct this with a stroke of a pen. Everyone in the country knows it was a bad move the day they did it. You can't have a level playing field when things like this happen.
The only U/SA in the country that can compete with the Fords is Bob Shaw's Caddy, which is a 12.80 car. Just ask Charley Bob.

Re: U/SA

Like any “ringer” the hp will be put back on a few at a time though.

302 2bbl is the reason I’m finally (FINALLY) changing my 83 bracket car to a 79 and joining the stocker ranks for the first time. I will NOT be a player, just a nobody who wants to test the waters and hit the index in the heat.
If I knew what I was doing and had the funds, I’d buy a turn key class car, but it would still be a fffford.

Ron Ortiz 09-13-2023 08:57 AM

Re: U/SA

I believe that another U/SA Shootout would be great, but isn't that just like a "class elimination" race with two or more competitors.

Maybe NHRA should have more "class" races at national events.
Better yet, have "class" at divisional races along with regular eliminations. That alone would increase car counts.

Ron Ortiz 09-13-2023 09:04 AM

Re: U/SA

"Like any “ringer” the hp will be put back on a few at a time though."

I believe that the Graham's out west banged on the hp rating several times, real hard too, but yet it is still a heavy player. They worked hard to get there, but it was a killer combo to start with and still is.

Ya know, I personally believe that the 302 FFFFord deal turned out to be a good thing even though I didn't think so at first. A bunch of cars got built and that's a good thing.
However, NHRA should have taken a lesson from this and dropped the factors on a lot more lo/po combos.
The thing that I see when dealing with the 302s is that NHRA considers each body and year as a separate combo because of FFFFord's way of "part-numbering heads and manifolds by year, making HP hits a long, drawn out thing.
My 307 and 301 stuff has different numbered heads and intakes and even different cam specs but they're all (largely) considered the same.

But this is O/T so, "back to our regularly-scheduled program".
