Live from the PA Dutch Classic at Maple Grove

Greetings from the beautiful , well manicured Maple Grove Raceway. Can not beat this time of the year in PA Dutch country, foliage is peak and this place looks great.

If you are coming to this event from the east on I78, I would suggest avoiding 222 if it is at a busy time of day, better to go farther on 78 and come down 61 to the beltway. 222 is just congested, and Sunday on the way out it could be worse.

There is some rain in the forecast, but we may do ok as the worse is scheduled for the night time Friday. It is chilly tonight, currently (10 pm) 41 degrees. I would much rather be cool, then a year or 2 ago when we were sweating our butts off.

For myself , it is all about tradition at this event, it is a joy to attend. It has it all, fast conditions most years, great facility, class eliminations, Hemi challenge and end of the year fun. Don't expect a lot of posting of Q sheets or pics from me, but I will try to post some stuff .Test and Tune tomorrow , starts at 11 or 12

Thanks Dave, I won't be there this year due to work obligations which really sucks; but it is what it is. I hope everyone has a great time!

Re: Live from the PA Dutch Classic at Maple Grove

Good evening all,

Lots of racers testing today, it stayed in the mid to low 60's. Steady headwind and the barometer was not that great for what we expect. I just took a ride by the teardown barn and it was empty. Some may have been set, and they may be doing teardown tomorrow. The place is filling up slowly, still plenty of room, a steady stream of rigs coming in this afternoon and evening. It will be busy tomorrow.

Sorry to hear you are not going to make it Bill, our best to you

85 cars in stock for the first qualifier today, Glenn Briglio, Cecil frazier, Scott Gove, Ryan Horensky, Mark Howes, Kenny Richard, Bob Moran, Todd Hoven, Anne Toews and Scott Underhill are the top 10. Glenn is 1.40 under and Scott is 1.05 under They have scheduled 1st rd of class for the end of the day today. The automatic cars are hooking better than the stick cars, there are 7 of us stick cars on the bottom of the qualifying sheet because we spun badly. I made adjustments, we will see what happens. The day started with sun and is now cloudy, the barometer is about .2 worse than yesterday. Still a head wind. Rd 2 coming up, they have called stock. If someone would like to post the Q sheets, text me at 413 734 5277 and II will text you the pic of the sheets

They are running Rd 1 of class eliminations now, stock has finished C1 and SS is running C1 now. We have dodged the rain so far, there were a couple of drops. The plan is to finish class tomorrow. We are expecting rain tonight, very dark clouds to our west. Hoping it will clear out early and we will be ok tomorrow.

They changed their tune on the time trial, everyone is getting one, stock is done and sst is currently running. We will get thru the tt's and then into eliminations. Still trying to finish today.

For those trying to watch from home. Did anybody see the YouTube video that tells you to click on the link in the comments? That then takes you to a NBC sports sign in? That looks like a scam to me. Seems hard to believe nbc sports would be showing the Dutch classic. When NHRA is hooked up with Fox. But if it’s real let me know. Or if you know of another way to watch. Let me know.

Saw this black SS396 Nova this weekend at the Dutch. I had never saw the car before but it's identical to my friend's L78 Nova he bought new in Nov of 1969. Just wondered if this could be my buddies original car? Any help appreciated,

Jerry

Hey Jerry,
I have owned the car for 33 years and the guy I bought it from had it 5 years before me. I am on Long Island and from what I know, it has been here for a long time. It has 2100 original miles and has been a race car from almost new. I was never able to figure out what HP the car came with. If that helps at all, it would be great to know the first owner...

Dennis
