Re: Looking for info on this trans. Dynamic
Is the bellhousing a cast part of the case, or does it bolt on? Hard to tell from your pictures.

Re: Looking for info on this trans. Dynamic
That is a 904 Chrysler built for AMC . It was used in AMC cars in early 80's in Sprite and others with the GMC 4 cyl Iron Duke motors . They had a lower first and second gearset - 2.72 and 1.54 instead of the 2.45 1.45 standard gears. As far as I know, everything is standard 904 internals. AMC also used the 904 with AMC bolt pattern behind the 6 cyl 258 motor. That's what I use behind the 4.0 in my Comanche. That trans will probably need the MOPAR converter.

In 1980, the Iron Duke was redesigned with the new GM FWD bell pattern. The one pictured is a std Chevy RWD pattern. |

AMC 904 postal van transmission. I believe they were all 904's, not the 998/999 V8 version which had a larger front servo and 4 pinion planetaries. Easy to tell a V8 unit from the outside, they have 2 ribs on top of the rear servo.

Is anyone familiar with the Dynamic that built this trans.?
Are they still in business? Thanks Dom |

Dynamic transmissions is in Connecticut, used to be partners with Frank Lupo's Dynamic Converter, but I don't recall what year they split up.

"Now THAT would be great to bolt a big block mopar bell (ultra bell) on the little 904 trans, no more high dollar 904 guts in the 727 case. Hemi guys will love this".
12-13-2023 12:43 PM Coleydog I wonder if you have ever seen the 904 planataries Dave Smith produces? Nothing like the stock 904 or 727. Ultra small and lite weight. Stock parts do not even come close.. |

Re: Looking for info on this trans. Dynamic
I?d just like to say a little something about dynamic trans in CT. They built my transmission in my 468 Pontiac turbo car in 2004 my car makes a ton of torque I have pounded on this thing on the street and at the track running multiple classes round Robbin as often as I could, 100 plus passes a year and it?s still
Going strong I actually had. Gauge reading 100 degrees higher than the measured temp at converter ( never could figure out why still does it) so I had them Pull it apart to check it. It was like new inside. The fluid was bright red the bushings had no burn marks or wear indications Threw it all back together as it was and continued its regular beatings. Still going strong. Figure that?s, 21 years on the same Transmission. TH400 Only reason. I even posted was because no one seemed to really know the company. I plain wore out / destroyed a lot of transmissions before finding dynamic. Haven?t destroyed one since. (Knocking on wood). Gotta give props where it?s due though. They’ve done right by me. GMonde commented in this thread he can vouch for, it I’m not easy on this trans at all |

Re: Looking for info on this trans. Dynamic
I had those guys do there 9 roller bearings and drum modifications to my C-4 but I haven?t ran it yet but when I got the parts back from them I didn?t get the same drum back for some strange reason my 26/26 input shaft (aftermarkets)would no longer fit into the drum but a 24/26 input shaft would fit.So now they want me to send the drum and input shaft back to them (at my expense) both ways.So now when I get the drum and my 26/26 input shaft back they had replaced the drum with my correct drum with the 26 spline but for some reason now one end of the input shaft fits the drum but the other end doesn?t fit the 26 spline in the converter and the input shaft looks totally different (stock input) but I sent them a aftermarket input shaft. So having another conversation about it did nothing to fix the problem I just gave up on it as a lesson learned.
