The announcement mentions National event purses. Sportsman Championships and the LODRS were not mentioned.

Re: NHRA announces $25million 2025 National Event season

In NHRA's executive's eyes, Sportsman racers get the "Privilege" of spending their hard earned money at their national event to be part of the big show. And in return, they get to receive less for winning a national event then they do at a divisional race. Still trying to figure out how this happens. There is surely a lot more money coming in at a national event, then a divisional race. So why is the payout less for sportsman racers at the national events? Then the waiting starts for the contingency money, IF you hound them enough for it. It's getting harder and harder to justify why we do this, but we do.

The NHRA knows you are not only showing up but you want them to increase the quotas so more of you can show up and race for pittance. But wait, as some have stated here, you don’t race for money so therefore the winner’s purse is meaningless.

I dont race for the money. Racing is a hobby for me. I build grocery stores for my income. It is nice once in a while to grab a bit of their cash when I get a good finish. I dont consider myself a "hitter" but I am good enough to win on a good day and have done that. I have a small collection of "Walley's and Iron Man trophies.

Again, if you don?t race for money, it doesn?t matter what the winner?s purse is. You?re racing for fun.

I may be wrong and/or things have changed but the tracks are responsible for the divisional payouts and the NHRA pays nationals. Another reason why so many tracks are having trouble staying in business.

$25M for 21 races? So $1.2M per. Not exactly Earth shaking...

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall when ND had such information shown years ago - mid 90s - it was normal to see total event purses at just over $1M. The page would show the numbers for every class.

More cars showing up then, too. Entry fees were ~$260. Contingencies were substantial. $1 was worth double today's dollar.

That's back when Dave Layer, Timmy Worner and other hitters was shooting for the #1 Qualifying money. It was 1100 for a while, wasn't it? Then it dropped to 400, then went away. Those guys said it was to pay their fuel bill for the event. Travel money, so to speak. Remember all the free products? Hands cleaner, Brake cleaners, Oils, Tee shirts.... And I was bummed when they did away with the Dragster calling you... and doing a 'write up" on your car. How the rounds of the event went, all the particulars of your National Event Win. When we first started, to enter National Events... you would send your check in to NHRA. You had to be quick, because if it was full, they sent your check back with a 'sorry' letter. That would have been about 1988 or so?

How much can you win at a National IN S/SS if you're stickered up good?

The BIGGER question is how many sticker companies are actually going to pay???

I had a conversation with Fletch several years back, he said for him it went from around $15K to about $5K on a good day.

1.NHRA treats contingency sponsors like crap.

2. Much of the performance in Stock and Super Stock has gone away, even though there are some guys out there going really fast. So people aren't spending as much, and as a consequence, it doesn't pay to advertise.

3. Even the people that aren't racing but were buying performance parts are not spending as much.

Sadly, the culture has turned to laziness and mediocrity. Including much of what is left of the "car culture".

I've collected contigency winning class 5 times, and a runner up at a divisional over the last 4 years. I've received almost 5k and only had Amalie not pay me. I am told they have a new person in charge so maybe they have worked that out. But Ford, Comp Cams, Sunoco, VP, Goodyear, Moser, Edelbrock, and others have paid me without a problem

Never had any issue collecting contingency money. Only Magnafuel gave us a hard time, saying the pump was too old but he paid.

I wasn't stickered up great when I won my national event 2 years ago, but still made out pretty good, think I ended up with 7 stickers or so plus track money.

Harland Sharp F$cked me though. I've been running their rocker arms since I started in 2014 but mine were too old for them to pay me. Since then I switched to Comp rockers that are honestly better anyway.
