Great idea Daren! This is a great way to attract the younger crowd! Tell us about the car. Ray

Re: Coming Soon.....

Looks like it might be a Turbocharged Inline 6. Toyota rates it @ 382, wonder what NHRA is gonna hit it at. Curb weight 3400. Very cool!

Turbo and engine are no joke. Did some machine work on block. Very strong looking inside.

FS/?? Stick&automatic ? And just in time cause the Camaro goes out of production.

Re: Coming Soon.....

Might be A/B/C production car. We have in the left lane a 1969 Mustang with a 428 CJ and in the right lane a 2026 Toyota Supra with a Turbo 6, no dial ins, same class, first to the finish line wins!! LOL

It's the "B58" engine, also present in various BMWs, including my daily driver. I always thought it would make a cool combination for Comp Eliminator!

There are numerous examples tuned to ~700hp even with the stock internals. The one you worked on will probably push 1000hp when it's all said and done.

People love to say that "young people these days don't love cars," and while that might be true to an extent, it's easy to forget today's "car people" who are building and having fun with cars like this.

This is very cool and has been anticipated for a long time. It adds to the new age production cars. Where I live in Charleston, SC there are new muscle cars everywhere.
Bring it.

Re: Coming Soon.....

Yeah, these Toyota Supras have a 3.0 liter bmw inline 6 that already goes 9's with tune in another car trim that's 400 pounds heavier.

I've seen the BMW M4 in person go 9.90's with tune all stock internals and stock turbo.
My question is what other automatic trans can you run, will only need 3 gears since it so light and has massive 700-800 foot pounds of torque.

This will be AAA/SA or FS/B at least....

Now, can LarryHill fit in it to be #1 qualifier at indy next year?

That's a joke because this car fitted with a roll cage and full interior would mean you'd have to be a 12 year old girl to squeeze into this car..

This is cool never seen a Toyota in Stock before are they even in the guide ?

Interested to see what transmission and rearend is in use. Not aware of any Toyota live axle or automatic transmission that the aftermarket supports. All the fast Toyota Supras in drag racing use Ford 9" and powerglides.

Re: Coming Soon.....

Also will be interested in how the factory water to air intercooler is used with modifications.

Okay then...Legal..no problem.

It will be in the guide soon. The Supra was built with the current rule book in-hand.

Daren,
So you needed to work with Toyota for the specs on the car. Right? Ray

Yes. It has taken two years to get to this point. Both Toyota and the NHRA have been involved from day one. Getting a new combination accepted is a long process in these times...

(The M4 has a much stouter version of the BMW inline-six than the Supra/Z4)

No. This is the production car. It will run in the normal Stock Classes.

Daren, I would be interested in what transmission this car will have. The 6 speed stick would be cool.

I had always suspected that there would be a Toyota legal in F/X with turbo 6 cyl.

That won't ever break in that car. One Joel's on Joy transmission would last over a decade in that combo.

My $.02?

If that contraption can run anything from AA-C, there’s going to be a lot of fast cars for sale soon and even more guys running FS combos. Not a fan of this one. Flame away.

I?m sorry I just can?t get behind this, I don?t care how much money Toyota, or BMW or whoever spent, that should be maybe a super street car at best doesn?t fit stock or super stock. What?s next Honda civic with a Subaru motor and twin turbo nitrous ?factory? setup?

Unless the rules have changed, how does a General Motors automatic transmission bolt up to a Toyota (or BMW) engine, and even more curious, how does a Japanese car get around that pesky rule that has always required the transmission (and rearend) being used, to be of the same manufacturer as the car? Or did Toyota buy GM while nobody was looking? I really doubt that this so called "Production" Toyota car is available at the Toyota dealership with a GM Turbo 400 transmission connecting the engine to the , I assume, Toyota rear axle assembly.

mike britt 06-04-2025 11:14 PM

Re: Coming Soon.....

And that's the next question. What rear end does it have?

GUMP 06-04-2025 11:29 PM

Re: Coming Soon.....

The rule book is quite clear on this.

ALL 2008 and up cars are allowed a 9" and an NHRA approved suspension.

The corporate transmission rule applies because the Supra is built in a joint venture with BMW. BMW has a history of running GM transmissions in their cars.

Not one rule was changed to allow this car into the guide.

That is interesting information, I had no idea NHRA changed the rules so much. Was this driven/forced by the acceptance of the V10 Drag Pack Challengers?

This is interesting, I'd like it better with a stick, but I'm sure the automatic will make it more driveable for most. I'd fit in it. Key is a close fit cage, done with care. Factory ECU or aftermarket, I use VF tuner for my street/strip toyota trucks. What Chassis shop is doing the build?

It could use a mail truck transmission.

Re: Coming Soon.....

This has gone to 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon or should I say 7 degrees of GM. NHRA new slogan should be SHOW ME THE MONEY. Just fallow the money. The history of nhra was built on providing a safe place to race and done safely but now they rarely even check the minimum of any safety device, let alone following there own rulebook that is not safety related items. What is the point of the rule book anymore, run what you brung.

How did Ford get away with running Turbo400 transmissions in the Cobra Jet cars?

Same 7 degrees of gm. Jaguars used th400 in the 70s early 80s at one point ford own Jaguar. But they also own Cummins at one time also, turbos for all Fords with no hp rating change

GUMP is correct.
The 5L50 and 5L40-E BMW transmissions were manufactured by GM.
