The Monte Carlo is a great combination. Contact Mike Baker at IHRA for class and specs. If you need any ideas on the build Mike Taylor E/PS record holder and Dennis Roberts H/PS who have similar platforms can short cut your build. Making sure you get the right parts and less experiment time getting it under the Index. IMHO send the engine to Jeff Warren. Pure Stock Legal Cam from Bullet. TurboAction, ATI, even Dennis Roberts can build a stout tranny. Need a good 8 inch converter. Dick Miller Brace which ties the upper and lower suspension. Legally! GM made an 8.5 inch Carrier Rear. Would just contact Moser for a bolt in rear. Going to spend more piece mewling it anyway. And you do not need a Roll Bar. Hope this helps. Send a picture of the car so it can be added to the Pure Stocker Photo Gallery. Btw..check out looserocker.com And the big S/SS meet near Columbus. Dan |
Re: pure stock
Michael ...
Start here with the current rules. http://www.bluetoad.com/publication/?i=186944&p=1 pages 48-49 Make sure you live in an area where you have a IHRA track, or the local Stock/ Superstock Associations allow IHRA cars... Hope this helps and good luck, |
Re: pure stock
so if the curb weight of the car 3239 with the 180 hp 305 what class would it be classified to be at with 170 lb driver i cant seem to figure it out

Re: pure stock
Shipping weight divided by the horsepower (NHRA or IHRA) rating of the motor used = natural class the car can run. Car an also run up or down one class.
1984 Monte Carlo with the 305/180, shipping weight is 3,334 pounds. 3,334 / IHRA Pure Stock rating = natural class. Assuming IHRA keeps the factory rating of 180: 3,334 / 180 = 18.5222. I/PS is the lowest class in P/Stk (Index is 14.55 seconds 1/4 mile and 9.45 1/8 mile), so you would have to run that. Minimum weight would be 16 (the weight break for I/PS) times the IHRA rating, plus 170, to determine the minimum weight, with driver, at the conclusion of a run. H/PS and I/PS would be the eligible classes. I/PS 16 x 180 + 170 = 3,050 pounds. Now, if IHRA rated the motor at, say, 205 hp for Pure Stock, same thing. 3,334 / 205 = 16.261. 16 x 205 + 170 = 3.450 pounds. Still runs H and I. Once you know what IHRA rates the 1984 305/180 at, in Pure Stock trim, you will know your class(es) and minimum weight(s) for sure. |
Re: pure stock

Re: pure stock
Mike:
What engine is in the car? Came with V8 2v and 4v carbs and V6 engine. With V-8 w/ 4v should be an E,F,G car...w/ 2v H or I. Got lots of options. Dan |
Re: pure stock
84 Monte Carlo had 305 4-bbl dished piston, low lift cam or 305 4-bbl high lift cam, flat top piston (L69 HO). No 305 2-bbl. 1979 was the last year a 305 2-bbl was offered.

Re: pure stock
it has the 305 4 barrel electronic carburator and the 8th number of the vin is a G and everyboby says thats the high output engine
|
Re: pure stock
Looking at the rulebook it seems they are not giving any leeway on the carburetor. I don't know how to make anything out of those electronic Q-Jets.
