Caperat,
You might also talk to Don Fardie (1528stk) F/S and also runs a Chev II stick... He's runs fast and has real nice looking black chev II...Maybe he will chime in..............Dave, |
Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
Jim Schaechter would be the one to talk to he has run the 327/350 combo, the only bad thing is the small carb
Don fardies is a 327/275 combo, which is much better |
Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately I do not have much info on that combination. I run the 275/327 which runs a Rochester, rather that the Holley that?s used on 350hp version. Tom Cassen does my carb work , but I believe he only specializes in Quadrajets, his number is 785-379-5186. In regards to the Calvert split Mono, that?s the one I run. I?ve had great success with it, but I?m not sure if the length is the same used on the Camaro. I know I had to wait on my springs, because he was in the process of getting them made and the Camaro set up was already on the market. Not sure who would be doing your motor work , but if you?re looking, try Tom Boucher at Boucher?s Racing Engines in Rowley Ma 978-948-7343. His work was a huge factor in allowing me set the national record last year. ?.Good Luck. Thanks Dave for compliments???.remind me to send the check later !!! LOL |
Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
Noticed the replacement heads for this combo are not allowed in stock, only superstock. What is the reason for disallowing replacement heads here or for stock in general?
|
Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
I'm not sure what you mean by replacement heads, but there are several factory replacement heads accepted for this combo. If you are talking about the World Products heads, they are not accepted on any Stock engine.
Factory heads are 461 (original heads). The 462, 291, 186, 041, 414, 492 numbers listed are all factory "replacement" heads. |
Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
Thanks a million for all the info guys. With the tech link from the NHRA listing all the specs, i saw that it says that a 275 hp. and the 300 hp. 327's came with a Holley carb. I am positive that these engines had Q-jets or am i out in leftfield. -- LOL --- Thanks, Kevin
Oh yeah, any idea where i can start looking for the legal carb and aluminum intake for the 350 hp. combo? |
Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
We ran our car in C and D stick with the 327 350 hp. a few years back. I never really got it figured out, but it ran ok. I went 10.80s best. Bill is right, the carb is small and the 275 hp is better ( we ran that too) I would suggest buying a new Holley and send it to Dean Oliver. It is probably cheaper than fighting collectors for junk carbs. The intake is tougher. They are out there, but the intake is a 490 number. The guide NHRA has is a squirrley # that no one can i.d. as an intake. Bob Gipson has a 350 hp in his 65 Vette at times and it is coming around. I went 10.80s in E stick with it. It is not going to be easy or a killer, but it can be ok. Remember, this is a stick only combo. The blue car is Bubka's. I don't know him but there are some on tnis site that have had pictures of it and it looks very nice. Pretty much old school style. Real nice. Never fast, but I don't think that is the game there.
Here is a pic of our car a few years back in C stick. Also, a link of testing Bob Gipson's Corvette. The engine is a test mule for the chassis. It now has a 396 in it. Good luck, Jim. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...ter/novacs.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLsH4NIuG84 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfZOiy-WKPo |

Re: 1966 Chevy II Stocker Info.
Hey there!! I currently run a 350hp-327. I found the center section for the holley on e-bay as well as the manifold. If you look for blemished or slightly dinged manifolds they are reasonable. i picked mine up for 125 bucks and the center section was $45. there are two manifolds to chose from the 0490 is by far the easiest to find. I run.80-.90 under with a super T-10 and hurst h-pattern! I still think there some left on the table with this combo-good luck
