Front shock problem

I have a 67 camaro. I have a set of single adj shocks. Problem is on the pass side when i try to install shock it moves thru the lower control arm then seems to bottom out. So far i have had to compress the spring a bit to get the shock stud up thru the hole. This car has been aligned by a very smart super stock racer and he didn't see anything obvious.
One more thing, i bought the car with competition eng front shocks and i remember the stopper was ground down. It's obvious to me they were having the same problem.
Thanks a lot guys and gals. I just love this site.
David

one more thing, everything is stock control arm wise, etc.

My guess is the spring has been altered for lower ride height (heated, cut or intentionally made).

And to boot no matter what spring over the few years I have had the car
Same problem. Only on the pass side. Wouldn't this problem possibly show up on both drivers and pass??

OK, so at Full extension you cant put the shocks in? that means that ethier the shocks arent long enough, or that you need to adjust the stops in your upper control arms

Brian,
I run spacers to drop the shocks off the lower control arm mount enough to expose the adjuster.

Oh, dont do that you'll limit you're front end travel, and top out the shock on every pass (which damages the shock).

this is what i did to cure that problem:

Brian,
I think the gentleman that built me the one off shocks used the wrong shock bodies and that's why i use the spacers. I still have 6 + inches of travel last time i checked.

Brian Holcombe 05-20-2007 10:08 PM

As long as the shocks arent topping out they're fine.

Thanks a lot Brian That set up you run looks awesome. Do you need the lower control arm to make that deal work, i can't tell
