Stocker Recomendations

I Am Looking To Buy A Stock Eliminator Car And Race It This Summer At Divisionals And Eventually National Events In Div.1. I Think I Want A Gm Muscle Car, That Would Run D-sa Or Better. I Have A Few Friends That Are Suggesting That I Should Race A Late Model Fuel Injected Car. Are There Any Benefits Or Disadvatages To Either? Thanks Kirk

Unfortunately, the answer to this question always involves "how much money can you afford to spend?". I'm sure an early GM muscle car (Chevelle, Skylark, Lemans, Cutlass) is cheaper to run than an LS1 Camaro/Firebird, for example. If you're not intimidated by tuning with a laptop, an LT1 Camaro/Firebird may be good choice, and a bit more economical to run that the LS1. Although I race a '70 4-4-2 E/SA, I always thought the '71-72 454 Chevelles would be a wise car to choose, particularly one of the lower horsepower motors with a Q-Jet.

jim, i am a little intimidated by tuning with a laptop.i have about 30k to spend. i want to buy a turn-key car, something that runs 1.00 under the index. i want to run a faster class so in eliminator i can be the chase car instead of being chased.i also am not sure what is involved with tuning with a laptop. how many times would one have to remap fuel curves or timing changes. once i learned it i think it wouldn't be a problem. i just have always worked with carbs and msd electronic ignition. i've raced my street chevelle off and on for the past 4 years and feel i'm ready to take the plunge.
