First NHRA Event
This last weekend I went to the National Open at Speedworld, this was my first NHRA event with the stocker, and had a GREAT experience !!! There are some really nice people that I had a chance to meet. Being new to stock, (bracket raced for years) I figured it would be a quiet weekend for me,,,,, nope, everyone was friendly, and welcomed me. I did go out in the second round, the car went really fast in the heat for that run, but had the best 3 days racing in a very long time. Thanks to all, Speedworld, Divison 7 crew, and the stocker crowd, I had a BLAST !!!!!!
ps. someone want to explain how my turbo car decided to pick up .07 in the 60' and over a tenth at the at the end on the brakes, IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY????????? Rick |

Yes, turbo cars are a lot like women, trying to figure them out will only leave you scratching your head! Jim

Re: First NHRA Event
I didnt go and heard the track was'nt as good as usual and the American flag was wrapped around its pole. I was told the car count was only 21 for Stock,Super Stock. Did everyone really get six shots at the track before eliminations???
Where's Todd E. when ya need him? |
Re: First NHRA Event
My first race many many years ago was at the Tucson. I had never been to a divisional race with my own car or alone. As soon as I got there Chuck Norton who I met at Pomona treated me like a long lost son and got me pitted in the right area, answered all of my questions and checked on me throughout the day. Bernie Cunningham was pitted next to me and help me immensely. I discovered that day that drag racers are the greatest people on earth.

Re: First NHRA Event
There were only 21 stock/superstock cars there for the race. We got 6 qualifying shots, four on Sat. and 2 on Sun. before eliminations. The track was a little slick on Friday, but Sat. and Sun. were better, but the wind was pretty bad with gusts all day on Sunday. I didn't want to forget some of the Superstock crowd, you guys were great too. I got a chance to talk to MR. Kennedy, and that was eye opening on some of his experiences. I also got a chance to qualify next to Kip Martin,,,, THAT was a blast,,, distracting is an understatement to watch that mustang drag the bumper in the lane next to you. Overall, I had a smile all weekend and for several days after. I just might have to do this more often.
