Shubeck Lifter Lash setting?
Hi,
Can anyone give me the complete run down on the proper way to lash Shubeck Lifters? Thanks |
Re: Shubeck Lifter Lash setting?
I set mine for zero lash. When I first bought them I asked the Shubeck person(who ever that was)and that is what he told me.
My set up is a 1979 355 SB; in a 1979 Camaro IHRA I/S. I broke one lifter when I broke my crank, other than that, no problems. Good luck. |
Re: Shubeck Lifter Lash setting?
This is just my method, everyone has their own preference. I set each valve by inserting a feeler guage first, then bottoming the lifter plunger. By tightening the adjustment as you move the feeler, you should be able to feel when you've bottomed. At that point the feeler "locks up" and becomes very difficult to move. I then try to lock the adjuster so the feeler pulls out with some resistance. With these agressive stocker cams, it can be tricky finding the base circle correctly for setting each valve. I'm slow, it takes me a few hours to carefully set them this way. I use the thinnest feeler that I judge will give enough "clearance" to prevent the valve from being held off the seat at temperature. When done this way, the plunger is slightly compressed when set. My thought is the minimum possible clearance. I'm assuming the plungers just collapse with the spring pressure we use, so it's basically like setting solids by bottoming the plunger. Disclaimer:- This works ok for me, but everyone's setup is different. I'm not recommending this, just describing what I do on my own motor. It works for me.

Re: Shubeck Lifter Lash setting?
Thanks for the info Grant and Terry, I was checking them that way with each on TDC I just wanted to make sure. I am using .005" for my lash clearance and have checked them once and everything is okay so far.
I appreciate the help. Darcy |
