NHRA upholds Shoemachers fine.

DRO just posted that NHRA'S impartial appeals panel[made up of three NHRA employees] has upheld it's decision to fine Shoemacher for his posession of "illegal" nitro at Las Vegas. ....What a suprise!! ....Tom .........Also the latest hot rumour on Bruton Smith buying NHRA!

Also they are enforcing the golf cart/pit bike rules.
Racers only, use of MOTORIZED vehicles only,no skateboards, razors etc.
Operator must have liability insur. and a valid drivers licence.
Only current (2008) sticker displayed on vehicle.
Use of outer roads,no riding in manufactures midway area.

I guess McCormack wont be renting many carts out.Unless they're not doing it now.

Can anybody shed some light on where I can get liability insurance for my golf cart? I called my agent today and at first he thought I was kidding untill I got him onto the NHRA site. He said my homeowners would cover it if I was not at a racetrack but since I am they will not cover anything. Any help will be appreciated

No Surprise To Me the fine was upheld. NHRA is money hungry!!!
The pit vehicles needed attention. If you go to any of the National Events and see how many spectators bring their golf carts and scooters in it is crazy. Why would NHRA let any of that happen was beyond me.
The outsiders just do not need transportation. The racers are the ones who use them as they should except for a few who turn their kids loose with them. I have a trailer that was hit and damaged by a bunch of racers kids out of control. Nothing done about it. I just hope the tracks and NHRA enforces this new rule and not like some of their other rules which they seem to forget.
My 2 Cents

Does this mean my non-motorized bicycle can no longer be used as pit transportation?

I didn't see any mention of bicycles. The spectator portion of the rule seems to make sence. The only loop hole I can see is the legal action that will come from handicapped people.

One thing that bothers me is that the "spectators" complained and got almost immediate action

Schumacher business does not belong on this site--No I think NHRA is phuqued in their way of thinking but that is another story for another site--
Now about excess pit traffic there is definately a problem--What is the answer i dont know but NHRA is trying to get a handle on it-- I agree with what they are doing -------Comp 387

FED your missing the point. NHRA fined a racer for something and they were wrong. It could and will happen to all of us one day not with NITRO but with something. I know alot about this deal as I just bought some NITRO for 1300, I bought it from the same source that supplies the NHRA source but wait they sell it for 2k at the race track. Bend the racer over one more time. The problem is the NHRA top lever racers have the budget but these independant Fuel Altered, Nitro harley guys dont. Again the little guy really gets hosed here.

Herb--Don's dilemma I agree is worth talking about but not here--Who, what and why the supply is what it is ,the prices are what they are is not worth talking about on this site-- Yes there is a problem---But on the other hand did he have 300 gallons (or whatever it was) of banned nitro in his pit area??? Clearly a safety hazard for DSR racing employees as well as the general public. Did he use it in any DSR car that weekend ??? I hardly think so !!!! BUT the point NHRA (might be) is trying to make is the UNACCEPTABLE amount of nitro in his pit area. Because it is DSR and he has deep pockets not to be confused with your biker buddy who probably could not afford any type of a fine no matter how small/large they( NHRA) is going to make an example out of Don-- Also let's not forget the power struggle between Light and Schumacher Light wants to show who is in charge and Don is not going to put up with the BS.. End of story---

Now about all of the excess pit toys and irresponsible kids & parents joy riding around running hap hazaed all over the place there is a problem that needs to be addressed--NHRA has set down guidelines and if they are not followed I forsee a total ban of any motorized vehicles--Everybody is going to hafta use a truck/van/car to tow their racecars --Comp 387
