Whats the deal with pit vehicles at Brainerd?
What kind of insurance if any, do you need?
What about scooters? Golf carts? etc.

Heading for Maple Grove this AM. Got ins yesterday for my cart thru Nationwide. They can write it under a motorcycle policy. Gave carts vin & model #. Cost $75

On the NHRA web site it tells you need libility ins for pit vechiles

ND states only racers entered at event may use pit vehicles
ND has advertisement for mccormack renting carts for indy to anyone

which one is it NHRA... or if you PAY your exempt as usual NHRA Bull****

Isn’t $40 of our National Event entry fees Liability Insurance?

The actual rule is worded as follows:

"ALL operators must be at least 16 years of age, have a valid state driver's license, and must be covered by adequate general liability insurance. All operators shall provide proof of such insurance, a driver's license, and any other applicable credentials upon the request of an NHRA or event official."

It does *not* indicate that you have to have insurance specific to the pit vehicle, just that the driver has to have some kind of general liability insurance. Anyone who has a decent car insurance policy should be covered.

I think the "new rules" were primarily aimed at barring spectators from having pit vehicles, which was a real problem at Norwalk this year.

Are you ****ing serious that I will have to have Insurance on my scooter to bring it to an NHRA race?

I was wondering the same thing when I read Jok's rant about this.....

But there is nothing actually new, the rule has been the same for a long time, just never enforced......like the $10 per pit vehicle ruling a couple of years ago.

Pit accidents are one of the leading losses for track insurance, that is a fact.

Personally, the only difference I noticed at Brainerd, the folks that come out of the zoo with picnic tables powered by small block chevies, yeah they were not allowed in the pits. For our golf cart, as long as you proudly display the "pit" sticker your in good shape. We were not allowed to enter the midway so we decided not to purchase anything.

Nothing about insurance etc.

I was told that mini chopped 55 mercurys, no longer than 10 feet are allowed as long as you have shelby 428s with carroll shelby stickers :rolleyes:
