Joliet Stock 4 heads-up RD 1

Back to actual racing. In round 1 of Stock, there will be 4 heads-up races. SS, zero. Did the SS racers do better in the class, WORKING THE LADDER 101, then the Stock people?

Too bad we just get to see the winners and not the whole result. At least they have all night to work on the tune-ups. Any engine changes?

So I guess I missed that class

Just what is the number one way to guarantee a first round heads up

Especially, I need to kow how to factor in people going 2 tenths quicker in the last (afternoon) pass and serveral others moving up.

I think it is very hard to exactly pick who you are going to run

Go ahead give me some sort of "I don't know anything" answer

You can always make more money but you can never make more time - spend your time wisely

I kind of doubt Bill Howell intended to get Rusty Hall first round.

I guess the Kevin Helms - Jason McCormick matchup can't happen til the final. Now that would be cool! http://www.classracer.com/html/happy.gif

Do you think Dan Fletcher is at the bottom of the SS qualfying on purpose?

Ty Webb is full of "$#it" the problem is you only get to control "Yourself" and while you may know someone's potential, You can't know what they'll do or "Want" to do at a given time. Plus the fact that there is probably several groups within this same ladder doing the same and they affect you as well. So much for Ladder 101 LOL

I'm not talking about trying to race a certain person. I'm just tallking about trying to find a safe quadrant to avoid a first round heads-up. It does not always work, but you can try.

You need to use information available to you like Nitro Joe's Stats and the Bernie Cunningham Ladder book. Check the qualifying sheets and follow along with the I-Card info.

This race was a good one to work the system. Three rounds of qualifying on one good weather day. And most importantly, there is no class eliminations! All bets are off on that one.

Let's take Mickey Whaley as an example. Mickey has a #4 on the window. He's a good and smart racer! After two sessions he was real close to having to race Jerry Stealy first round heads-up. Indy class winning Carlton Sweasy and George Widuch weren't too far away either in H/SA. Jerry didn't look to be moving to the top which made the bottom of the top half and the top of the bottom half not a bad place to be for Mickey. It looks like Mickey played it smart and considering the weather, adjusted his car to pick up about a tenth of a second (.09). This placed him in the 40th position in a 81 car field. He had to run the #80 qualifier, who was running a little over the index during qualifying at this race.(No guarantees)

Mickey is now in the third round and has to race Russell Linke who has had two heads-up races so far. Now does Bubba go back to qualifying mode which may have been his bracket mode or does he keep his tune-up that got him there?

If you think this was done by accident and not intentionally maybe you do need the class. This stuff happens frequently in highly populated classes which is generally not SS/L.

It looks like that Jason McCormack / Kevin Helms A/S final is still a possibility. That would be a good race, let alone a final. Jason qualified 54 and Kevin 63 and I'm sure they both have a bunch left to spare.

As I was standing by the qualifying sheets in Chicago, I overheard some allstars wanting to move around on the ladder so they would not have to run their own team blocker...looks like this worked and didn't work for some of them. With all of the moving of the last session, I highly doubt the "safe quadrant" choosing was intended along with the heads up matches. Dan Fletcher was driving his stocker in superstock...but he had his new super stocker there I think to get certified and stuff and it looked pretty bad ***.
