1963 Indy A/SA class final photo

Over the many years of Stock and S/S dragracing there have been combinations that have raced that could fall under the category of different or "not run of the mill". I found a neat picture of the A/SA class final at the 1963 Indy Nationals. Both cars in the photo could be considered different.

How about some other shots or stories of unusual Stock/Super Stock combinations from the past.

Thanks Travis. Neat story and photos. I miss the BEHEMOTH and Hill Billy Duncan wagons. If they were not so heavy they would be neat in TOP/STK again. Maybe Jr. Stock...

Travis they don't get any more strange or unusual then Richard Charbaneau's 1967 Ford Fairlane wagon equipped with a 427cid engine & a 4-speed trans that he won Stock @ the 1971 NHRA Winternationals with in Pomona,Ca.. We all know they never built one of those on the assembly line in Detroit why on earth did all you tech. guys at NHRA allow him to legally race that car for years and years?? "Charby" must have had some of them bogus Shelby/Hawk documantation papers too lol?? http://www.assassinwebdesign.com/Sta...ides/nwi12.jpg

I saw Richard Charboneau's wagon on several occasions here in Div. 5. That picture looks like Minnesota Dragways, if I'm not mistaken?

Minnesota Dragways is where the famous phrase heard 'round Division 5...."Which way to the paaaay window??!!" .....was first uttered.

Jack Mullin's 1963 Pontiac Catalina Superstock wagon...very strange and in it's day, very dominant.

It was for a fact. However, that engine was very common in Pontiac wagons, unlike Charboneau's wagon.

There were a few more of the Pontiac wagons like Mullins. Larry Pacey from Florida ran one and Wilbert Thornton from Selma, NC also ran one.

Good subject Travis! The photo of Charbaneau's 427 Fairlane reminds me of Barrie Poole's SS/C 427 Comet wagon. He was runner-up at the 67 Spring Nats to Grumpy Bill.
