Engine weights
Does anyone know what the weight difference between a complete, not filled, big block and a small block engine?
Also, how about a turbo 350 and a metric trans? Thank you in advance. |
Re: Engine weights
I think the engine weights are about 100 or so pounds different, a small block weighs about 585 fully dressed, and a big block about 100 pounds or so more.
Hard Block doesn't weigh much more than the water it displaces. I think a 200 Metric is about 25 pounds lighter than a 350. That's stock weight. You can go to TCI and they have a list of what the drums weigh, cast iron vs. aluminum. That's all going on memory, I have not weighed the stuff recently. |
Re: Engine weights
Last year I placed a 350 with an aluminum front drum and a 200 with steel drums on a bathroom scale.
The difference was 30 pounds. Of course, my bathroom scale tends to exaggerate. |

Re: Engine weights
When I replaced the 302 in my Camaro (way back in '84) with the 396, the difference was 180 lbs.
